Allegheny County aw enforcement agencies get $3.2M in stimulus
First off, great job Pittsburgh Live! "Law" is a difficult word to spell, but you got two thirds of it right!! YAY PITTSBURG IVE! ;-)

The money was calculated through each department's crime statistics reported to the Justice Department.
Make more arrests, get more money! A great incentive to book the guy with a half ounce of pot rather than giving him a warning.
Quote:
Swissvale police Chief Greg Geppert said his department will spend $35,825 on video surveillance cameras for the community and laptop computers for police cruisers.
"We want to install the cameras in various places throughout the borough. There will be some in the business district," Geppert said. "Officers will be able to see the video from the computers in their car."
Big brother behavior begets funds for more big brotherism!!! Just what Pittsburgh needs.
Founding Fathers must be so pleased.

Great ... So Pittsburgh is following Chicago's lead with the cameras. How that's not a trend!

Rather than putting feet on the beat, let's hire contractors to sit on their asses, watch monitors and radio dispatch cars.
When I was a kid, you'd see cops out of their cars. Walking around, talking to merchants, joking with kids. They were part of the community. Now, every action that the police take seems to seperate them from the community to a greater extent.

I think its a good thing to equip the police with better body armor. Hopefully, k-9 units will benefit from that as well.
