If your worried about over penetration, Glaser Safety Slug is what you want.
I myself never give it a thought as the round would have to go through a layer of plaster, wood lathe, and few courses of brick, and then the same thing at the neighbors. Unless of course it were to exit a window. Worrying about that though seems like worrying about terrorism instead of heart disease - not a wise choice considering the real life risks.
depends, how far is your neighbors house, do you live in an apartment?
id just get some regular hollowpoints and dont worry, if you are worried your best bet is to use a shotgun.
if the bullet does happen to penetrate through multiple walls, then through you neighbors walls, and the chance of it hitting someone is slim, im sure the bullet will be tumbling slowly by the time it gets through all that anyway.
I prefer the 124gr +P Speer Gold Dot. Based on my research they seem to expand well (even with denim), penetrate adequately, and there is little or no core-jacket separation. JMHO
I would NEVER under ANY circumstance trust my life to a glaser safety slug. Just my opinion. I think the whole over-penetration argument is exaggerated.
Literaly Im in a house and neighbors houses are 5ft to 10 ft from mine.
Any good carry ammo will be sufficient, so...
- Federal HST
- Speer Gold Dot hollow point
- Winchester Ranger T Series
+1, thats what I use for my carry ammo. Personally I'd be more worried about the effectiveness of a bullet to stop a threat than the potential to penetrate multiple walls. Look at www.theboxotruth.com and you'll see that anything that wont penetrate multiple walls will NOT be effective in stopping your attacker.
There are lots of 9mm personal defense ammo choices. Any will probably work fine. The most important thing is to make sure your SD ammo is reliable in your particular gun.
As far as multiple wall penetration goes, there are a lot of variables, but there's probably not a whole lot of difference at home defense ranges between the handgun round & a lightweight 5.56 or 5.45 bullet. There's a 9mm & an AK-74 in our bedroom & given the choice, I'd take the rifle any day. So will my wife.
