I love my SAR-1 and wouldn't trade it for anything. I would just like the option of carrying in a sling covertly. I realize accuracy would suck and it's probably not comfortable extended but it'd still be nice to have in a shorty version or something.
I've got too many other toys on the list before another AK though. I need to get a hunting rifle for this Fall. First time in 11 years that I'll be going hunting and I need an awesome rifle that I'll never fully use in order to do it. But that's another thread.
/BTW, .308 or 30-06?
//JK!!! PLEASE don't answer that.
POST NUMBER 500
I have begun to order parts for my AK and will have a picture of it on here as soon as I get them and can put them on. Still a few more things to get till it is done. But the madness has begun.
It will be ready for the next PAFOA Shoot hopefully.
WOW, want fast service??? Deal with Ultimak out of Idaho. Got my stuff in 3 days. Ordered it on the 14th and got it on the 17th.
Anway. The new parts are on, and the transformation has begun.
This is the original

And slowly it turns into the "Black Rifle" that I want it to be.

Nearest to farthest:
AK-84s, Norinco (see below)
AK-74/SAR-2 Romanian (same as first image)
SVD, military version
Two garden-variety SAR-1's, Romanian
RPK (actually a semi-auto Chinese NHM-91 that was 922'ed)
The rest are SKSs & Mosins (yawn)

AKMS, Norinco, circa 1984. This is a true "pre-ban" import. The way you see it is exactly how the Chinese made it, including the black fiberglass furniture. *Very* early import, apparently the Chinese were concerned that US buyers would view the original wood design somewhat askance, so they made the first batch of AKs destined to the US with black fiberglass furniture to visually "westernize" it.

Plain Romanian SAR-1, circa 2000.

Chinese AK-84S, factory chambered for 5.56mmx45 (.223 Remington), in original pre-ban configuration. Interesting AK variant, made expressly for western buyers after interest in the AKs went far beyond what the Chinese anticipated. These were only imported a few scant years before Bush the first cut off the import military rifles like this in 1989. This one dates to about 1988.
