Wilson Combat 1911 mags and my gun
Hello, I have a question about the compatibility and functionality of Wilson Combat 1911 mags and my Kimber Team Match II 1911. My gun has a mag well and it came that way from the factory. I am looking to set it up for an IDPA rig, so I need some extra mags. Due to the magwell, I would like a few mags with base pads. I found these Wilson #47D mags in a three pack and they include a mag pouch which I need as well. They can be seen here: http://www.brownells.com/magazines/h...979-91061.aspx. I have read mostly good things about these mags. My second option is to buy two Kimber mags and install factory Kimber base pads separately. My question is are the base pads on the Wilson combat mags large enough to ensure a firm, functional seating of the mag in the gun with the Kimber factory mag well? Which option would I be better off going with? I am open to your experiences and suggestions. Thank you.

Kimber mags SUCK! Replaced all mine with Wilson's 47D's as soon as I bought my Kimber.

These are top notch mags from Virgil Tripp. I used them in my 1911 9mm. Stainless steel followers with polymer base pads. I never had any problem inserting them during matches with a standard magwell.

I've read too much about Wilson 47D's not being reliable in some Kimbers (edit: and others for that matter). If I was going to spend my hard earned, I'd go with Tripp or Chip McCormick (I just invested in some CM 10 rounders that are perfect and got Tripp 9MM 10 rd on the way). Rarely do you see reliability issues with either.

I went from Wilson mags to Tripp mags. They are truly outstanding kit. If you are going to run Wilson's I strongly suggest Wilson ETMs, especially if you are going to have a magwell. The mags are longer and have a great standard basepad for seating in a magwell.

I used to shoot a Kimber Teammatch, which I believe is essentially the same gun as yours. I used the Wilson mags extensively and really liked them. you definitely need to use a good extended base plate as that mag well will destroy your hand if you try fast reloads with standard GI mags.
Also, you might want to make sure your gun fits in the IDPA mob, mine did, but it was a very tight fit. That looks like a pretty good price for quality mags and a usable pouch.

One that comes with Kimber suck.
Kimber Tac Mag is ok. Thats what I used on most all my 1911' and seem to work very well, except when loaded to max(8), its hard to insert in to gun

Get some Chip McCormick 10 rd Power mags. SWEEET! I love mine. Can't believe I waited as long as I did to get some.

I've been messing with ACT mag, and its pretty decent mag for the price.
But other than hard to install in the gun, TacMag works great...
