Re: Favorite Hunting Rifle
My favorite is my DPMS AR-10 .308. I've never actually hunted with it because PA sucks.
The one I actually hunt with is a Weatherby Mark V 300 mag. It's a little much for deer but with 180 gr PSP bullets it doesn't blow up too much meat. I replaced the trigger spring on it and the trigger is awesome. Super smooth bolt. I have a Burris LRS scope with an illuminated reticle. Really nice gun. Almost too pretty to hunt with. I covered the stock with a camo neoprene wrap that looks pretty cool and protects the stock.
Re: Favorite Hunting Rifle
For most of my hunts , I carried the same Ruger M-77S in 30-06 I have carried since I was 16. Got it for either my 15th Xmas or 16th birthday (Dec~Feb) , I forget. I've carried a few others on occasion. Haven't gone in years , but the next time out , I will pick a good sitting spot and have my Ruger No.1B in 30-06.
Re: Favorite Hunting Rifle
Winchester Model 88, .308 Win
Re: Favorite Hunting Rifle
My favorite deer gun is my winchester model 94 xtr big bore. It is a .375. I look at it as the ultimate 30-30. I have 19 rds left in my last box. In my experience with it thats 19 bucks. Should last me until my end. Light as a feather and kicks like a mule.
Number 2 is my m70 30-06. Old weaver 3-9 scope.
Re: Favorite Hunting Rifle
My sweetums is my Weatherby ultralight MK V in 257 magnum. I just bought a Montana Rilfe Co. X2 in 264 win mag. From what I'm seeing from break in 3/8th inch at 100 yards, I just might have a new sweetums.
Re: Favorite Hunting Rifle
My favorite is my Browning A bolt stainless stalker in .280 Rem. The rifle has been a tack driver out of the box and the caliber is pretty dramatic on proper shot placement. The rifle and load can shoot better than my eyes allow it too anymore .
Re: Favorite Hunting Rifle
My favorite deer rifle is a Win 70 Super Shadow in 7MM WSM. It's only my favorite because it's the first rifle I bought and I hunt with it every year. It wears a Bushnell trophy 4-12x40 in gloss black because the store was all out of matte scopes and I was too impatient. I should really upgrade that scope, but there always seems to be some other project going on.
In reality for my dream rifle, I have always wanted either a Sako 85 Classic or a Winchester 70 Super Grade.
Re: Favorite Hunting Rifle
The last couple years my go-to has been a savage m10 in 7mm-08. I still break out my old Winchester 94 in 30-30 for a walk sometimes. I've had it since my twelfth birthday.

I have a Model 70 Super Grade in .300 Win Mag that I bought at Cabela's in 2011, they were the only ones who had one in stock I could handle. That was the rifle that kicked off my love affair with the Winchester Model 70, CRF rifles, the .300 Win Mag and long range shooting.
It is a sweet shooting rifle, with hand loads I could sometimes get it under 0.5 MOA with most being around 0.75 MOA. Comfortable to shoot without being overly heavy, overall a great balance for hunting. It was my go to long range rifle till I built my Mausingfield and it is actually on my list of rifles to get ready this summer. I'm thinking the 200gr ELD-X will be just the ticket for anything from 30 to 600 yds
As a Model 70 fan I will obviously tell you to go with the Model 70 however a buddy of mine is a big fan of Sako rifles and he swears by them. He shoots lots of little groups with them too.
Re: Favorite Hunting Rifle
I carry a Sako Finnlight in 260, 308, or 300wsm for deer/bear. Groundhogs get 223 from a Rem700 police, or 260 from a Sako 85 classic.
