When I was up at the courthouse getting my CCL updated last month, the guy in front of me in line was just getting his. He was asking the lady at the counter (who seemed pretty pro-CCW, but was not aware of the laws) where it was ok to carry and not to carry. She responded with
"It's pretty much common sense where you shouldn't carry, like a bank".
Then she went on about how you can't carry in MD if you go to WV or VA. That you have to seperate the ammo and gun. But said nothing about locking it in the trunk.
I had to intervene at this point which I said "By law in PA you can't carry in a courthouse, school and state park. Thats it. In Maryland if you drive thru, your best bet is to unload your gun, clip, seperate both, and lock your gun in the trunk or out of reach".
Afterwards the guy and I chatted for a bit outside about laws and such. Well today I was thinking about that, and it had me so flustered that this lady was giving out inacurate (not wrong, just not complete) info that I figured I should do something about it. I want to make a flyer with basic rules and regulations about whats off limits, how to drive thru MD to get to WV and VA. I'd explain what states have reciprocal agreements with PA, and general common sense guidelines about carrying in PA. I'd also add websites such as hangunlaws.us, carryconcealed.net, pafoa.org and DC.com. Then I would leave a stack of these flyers at the counter for people to take. Does any think this would be a good idea, and secondly does anyone think the sheriffs office would go thru with this?
