Nice!
After since using M16A1, M16A2, and civvie AR15s since 1972, I have concluded that I do prefer side charging AR uppers.

I mean come on, below cost otd on a new 60 PC and then a $50 rebate after - no brainer - lol. I've got to stop cruising gun sites nightly and hitting my shop weekly!

I had time to kill this past Friday and stopped in to Grice's in Clearfield to see what was on / in the used racks and display cases, and bought this AK stockset for $499 plus tax:

. . . but it was attached to this:

. . . before I removed and trashed the black poly stockset and replaced it with laminated wood that I had lying about.
The AK is a 2002 vintage Romanian SAR-1. It has perfectly aligned, plumb sights and little to no wear or scuffing to the metal bits. I was surprised to see a used AK in Grice's inventory, because they tend to steer clear of taking non-AR "milsurp" guns on trade or outright purchase. But at around $530 OTD, I couldn't pass up a quick project when I had the Combloc laminated wood set and unknown PG just taking up space. Especially an SAR-1 with the desirable factory double-stack magwell and magwell dimples.

Now you need a can of Rustoleum high heat paint to make the metal look as good as the furniture.

Well, I blew the gun budget for at least the next 6 months.
