Need Sporting Clays Help!
Hi, I have been shooting skeet and five stand for about 9 years. Recently I tried shooting sporting clays and found my old skeet gun not really up to the task. Does anyone have any reccomendations on a shotgun? Please also suggest a website where I can look up or read about any suggestions.
Thank you
Riven

Most sporting clays guns these days, have between 30" to 34" barrels, with interchangeable chokes. I prefer over/unders, but there are good semi's out there as well. Just pick a manufacturer you're interested in and check out their website. I'm sure you'll be able to gather enough info to make an informed decision.

Agreed with .45 ; O/U is fairly popular, as they are easy to swing and accurate. Possibly look at O/U or autoloaders if that's more your thing. Semi is nice because you may end up getting some more versatile hunting use out of it (i.e. waterfowl, turkey, etc.) Benelli, Beretta, any of the big manufacturers you should be safe. Re: Need Sporting Clays Help!
I used to use a Winchester 1200 PUMP...I know... most people use O/U's or autos, but I used this gun for trap shooting and felt very comfortable with it. It had interchangeable chokes and I would change them on the way from one station to another.
Sporting Clays is an EXCELLENT way to practice for hunting and is very enjoyable. Like anything else.. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE AND have fun.

go to your local Barnes and Noble and get a copy of Clayshooting, or Sporting Clays Magazine and see what the best shooters use. It will give you some ideas. The Beretta and Browning autoloaders are very popular.
There is also a great sporting cays thread on Shotgun world

Re: Need Sporting Clays Help!
I’ve used a Winchester 1200 pump, Mossberg 500 pump, and Beretta U391 auto for trap shooting. I tried all 3 on the sporting clays course and liked the auto best. One of these days I’m going to get an O/U.

Re: Need Sporting Clays Help!
I have used a Remington 870, a Beretta Whitewing and a Winchester Super X3.
The SX3 is just an all around nice gun to shoot. Cheap too. I paid $1000 up here for a new one.
The Beretta swings real nice and gives the option of using 2 chokes (o/u). This can be useful on some sporting clays stations.
The 870 is fun to shoot sporting clays with. (Cheap to buy too). It can be a little tough on some stations unless you are quick.
I would highly recommend the SX3 though.

Short of a quality O/U, any good semi-auto with 30" or more
