Dear Fellow Pennsylvania Taxpayer,

We are in the midst of unprecedented times. Americans must unite in defense of freedom.

Pennsylvanians have witnessed government gone bad at all levels and in all three branches.

It is time to voice our grievances to our state government that WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH of the irresponsible spending and excessive tax burden.

Join with fellow taxpayers at the Pennsylvania State Capitol for a peaceful taxpayers' protest on June 9, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. to deliver the message to OUR state government that IT IS time for them to listen and act on what WE have to say!

Let the Governor and the legislature know that we demand that they pass a responsible balanced state budget with no tax or fee increases!

Date: June 9, 2009

The state legislature has legislative session at the Capitol on June 9, 2009 and the Governor should be in Harrisburg since the state budget deadline is June 30, 2009.

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Start to arrive at 9:00 a.m. at the front door of the State Capitol Building off Third Street or at the back door off Commonwealth Avenue.

After you have made your way through security, go to your respective State Representative or State Senator’s office. Sit in their chairs, stand in their reception areas or find a seat on their floor.

Make yourself comfortable for a peaceful taxpayer sit in protest for as much of the day as you can stay.

If your legislator’s office is filled, find another’s office that isn’t!

If all the offices are filled join fellow taxpayers in the Main Capitol Rotunda near the front entrance and the East Wing Rotunda at the rear Capitol entrance. Find a bench or a step or a place on the floor, stay as much as you can of the entire day. When the rotundas are filled, fill the Capitol hallways.

Wear comfortable attire and bring your bagged lunch.

Prepare to stay the day to show YOUR government that as your public servant they WORK FOR YOU!

Come spend a day at the State Capitol to deliver the message that our government is to serve “We the People” by passing a balanced budget and reducing our tax burden.

We the taxpayers of Pennsylvania want to keep more of OUR hard-earned money

After declaring earlier this year that he would not tolerate any "whining" about his "painful" budget cuts, Governor Ed Rendell is now hosting repeated on camera "pity parties" regarding the state Senate's budget proposal that contains even more substantial funding reductions.

Due to six consecutive years of out of control spending, borrowing and unprecedented fiscal irresponsibility, the Pennsylvania General Assembly now faces the historic task of closing the estimated $3 billion, and growing, Rendell budget deficit.

Rather than working to enact a balanced 2009-2010 state budget that puts Taxpayers First, Governor Rendell and his legislative accomplices want Pennsylvania's working families and job creators to foot the bill through a historic tax increase.

Taxpaying citizens who are funding our government are encouraged to descend on the capitol to be a part of making history with the Pennsylvania State Capitol Taxpayers' Protest.

From the Metcalfe Memo email alert

Quote:
We The People Must Protest

As of May 31, 2009 there are only 30 days left before the state budget deadline. April's revenue shortfall was more than $900 million. Our budget deficit is now projected to be $3 billion.

Admitting to the largest budget deficit in Pennsylvania government's history, the governor still proposes to increase spending by hundreds of millions of dollars over last year's budget.

Many of us believe that as we debate the budget, we should put Pennsylvania Taxpayers First! The average citizen understands that you cannot spend more money than you make. Our state spending must be reduced and prioritized for the good of our state's taxpayers and the future of our economy.

Are the $29 billion that the governor wants to spend legitimate expenditures of state taxpayer dollars or are there expenditures in the budget that are solely for the governor and his friends' political benefit to gain favor with voters at election time?

I submit the following excerpt from a story reported in the:

Sunday News (Lancaster, PA) - March 5, 2006
Author: Helen Colwell Adams

"Yes, he was an hour and 19 minutes late for the Democratic rally on Saturday, but Gov. Ed Rendell had a novel way to apologize for his tardiness. He mixed it with a campaign challenge. Produce 95 percent of the record-setting vote the Democrats got two years ago for John Kerry, and the governor will give state Rep. Mike Sturla and Mayor Rick Gray 'one free request' for state money."

The rally was reportedly hosted by Mayor Gray's campaign committee. The governor was reported to have offered state tax dollars toward projects in exchange for successful campaign work, while talking at a Democrat rally.

Is that a legitimate expenditure of tax dollars or a corrupt use of tax dollars?

Another example of this administration's misuse of tax dollars includes using our taxpayer resources as collateral for and to facilitate a loan for Boscov's, when the governor's campaign has reportedly received well over $100,000 from Albert Boscov in campaign donations.

Further more, an excerpt from an article in the Wall Street Journal Digital Network, on April 8, 2009, regarding a motion pending before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court last month read:

"And it turns out that Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell's Office of General Counsel was negotiating this potentially lucrative no-bid contingency fee contract with Bailey Perrin at the same time that the firm's founding partner, F. Kenneth Bailey, was making repeated campaign contributions totaling more than $90,000 to the Democratic governor's 2006 re-election bid. Janssen's motion seeks to invalidate the contingency-fee arrangement and lays out a detailed timeline of Mr. Bailey's political contributions and the subsequent actions of the governor's office."

If these actions are taking place during the light of day, what is happening behind closed doors?

The original design and purpose of our government was to serve the people; it has been corrupted by self-serving politicians, lifelong bureaucrats and special interests.

How can we end the abuses and the corruption of state government?

The answer is, "Government of the people, by the people and for the people."

The taxpayers of Pennsylvania, who pay for the government must take control of their government once again.

The majority of people who walk the halls of the state Capitol are people who are asking for more of the taxpayers' dollars for their own special interests.

Those of us who are fighting for a responsible, balanced state budget, with no tax or fee increases, need the help of the taxpayers who pay for the budget.

I invite you to join me on June 9, 2009, for the Pennsylvania State Capitol Taxpayers' Protest. For more information on how you can join the fight for responsible government, please visit www.statecapitolprotest.com.

Question Re: PA State Captitol Taxpayers' Protest Tues June 9, 2009

Hi,

Is anyone going to this from PAFOA? I'm going, I'm driving up on Monday night .

I read some of the other posts and understand that they do have 8 lockers for firearms correct? What happens if they fill their lockers (as I'm sure happened for second to none..) As much as I would love to carry as far as I can to this thing, I also have never been to this section in Harrisburg (and it's been around 15 years since I've been to Harrisburg). I'll have fun finding my way around. :-) (wink wink nudge nudge, having someone to walk around with would be helpful I think is what I'm trying to say..)

Either way, I think anyone who can come should. I know it's not 2nd amendment stuff, but it all comes full circle. :-)

if they run out of lockers (just like every year at the 2A Rally) they will find another way to store your firearm. This may mean they will take it down to the radio room.

you will get a reciept

if anyone gives you any trouble about it (unlikely) ask to speak to their superiors, they have no choice.
