I was OC and CC, so they could ask me........

Any chance of getting a copy of the original of that shot #1? I think I see a familiar, hairy face.

Spoken like a man. In and around the Capitol complex (which I'm assuming is where you were) security is a BIG deal, and beyond the fact that it was off-range, not in front of a safe, you were out in the world, which could get you drawn down upon by a very adrenaline-driven, hard-charging cop, or worse. Next time, yes, think about your "20" and be absolutely sure that everyone within eyesight shares your enthusiasm and your slightly biased opinion that you are not, in fact, dangerous.

ETA: I found the print bit of your blog, with a clickable link to the original photo, and also saw where it was that you displayed the LCP. Never mind, and, uh, never mind, and rep sent.

YMMV, of course, and we can play "whats the ideal situation for me" forever. I'm glad I didn't have to do anything with my firearm other than pull it out and put it in the box.

HOWEVER, Having to turn it to read the s/n had me ALMOST pointing it at the officer and I don't think he even noticed. I'm glad I caught it, even if I'm the only one that sees it, a "big 4" rule violation still means I throw $20 into the pot that my friends have running.
1. Big, big surmise.

2. A few people were complaining about poor gun handling on the part of the female sergeant. From what I understand, she was sweeping torsos with muzzles.

Again, to all those that attended, we're all proud of you. As for me, everything is looking good, cancer-wise, but there's still a colonoscopy to deal with. Luckily, I'll be unconscious when they do that.

Would be interesting to know what kind of briefing Harrisburg's finest received this morning before starting their shifts. I mean, all these strange people walking around town carrying guns and stuff.

Would also be interesting to know how many firearms the Capitol police had to check in.

Looking forward to next year, the fifth anniversary!

Glad to here you'll be around awhile!

I am figuring 50+ firearms checked.
They have 8-10 lockers at the entrance, the rest were stored in officers cabinet.
That's just my rough guess, seeing the storage facilities.

ETA: FWIW, I only saw PAFOA members OC'ing......

Kim Stolfer and Daryl Metcalfe's office contacted security yesterday afternoon to let them know they would be receiving a large amount of visitors in need of checking in a firearm. They made the best arrangements they could.

The lockers in the rear of the Capitol only have rooms for 8 firearms.

The staff was overwhelmed. They were calling in extra officers as I was processing through. They did the best they could, but Capitol Police really doesn't have a good plan to anticipate the amount of people showing up to check in a firearm like we have at these events. It really is a logistical nightmare for them.

The officer I talked to on my way out said he thought they stored about 60 firearms in the lockers downstairs. I think that estimate was really low. I think its more like a couple hundred.

Let's not give these checkpoint officers a hard time. They are following the instructions and policies of their superiors. If you have a problem with an officer checking a firearm during a visit, request a supervisor. If you can't resolve it there, contact Daryl Metcalfe's office and report your problem to him. We can be both assertive and polite.

I, too, had a great time today. Got chills several times during some of the speeches. I did not get to meet as many members as I had hoped. It got really tough to move about. I even got there early. I am glad I was not my usually tardy self, I would have been on the steps.

Several of my co-workers, from different locations around the State, attended as well. They are fairly new to the RKBA movement and were impressed with the day's events.

A few .gov employees were visibly bothered by our presence. They seemed to be bothered by the delay the congestion caused. The way I figure it is my rights override their job, but that is just me, your view may vary.

Be safe (and be heard).

Scott

Got home a few minutes ago . We must've spoken to half the senate and house today! We had some great conversations with reps who covered the full range of enthusiasm (from "yes, this is great!" to "You don't need this"). The capital police were very professional and quite accommodating. I will admit, while going through the metal detector, I did keep my LTCF out and visible despite having already told another officer I had a firearm to check. I figured, with as many people coming through the entrance that day, the easier I could make the process, the better off everyone would be.

This was a fantastic experience, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Special thanks to DadCat for taking point in our group.

PS: Yes, I OC'd today (within the confines of what was legal!) with absolutely no ill effects. In fact, I had my first OC encounter (non-LEO) at the diner we had dinner at, which went well!
