Default Fail to feed - Ruger P95

Noticed at the shoot a couple times when my ruger p95 failed to feed a round into the chamber. When I re-rack the slide it will typically feed then. I took it home, cleaned it really well and then put another factory magazine in it and racked the slide and let it go. It sorta, half fed the round, where the round was half in, half out of the magazine but didn't completely feed it. I cleaned the hell outta it and made sure it was oiled, the feed ramp is gleaming. I know when I took it apart prior to the shoot to clean it, part of disassembly is to push the ejector down toward the magazine well but it did come up without any issue after I was done. Anyone with any suggestions let me know.

Thanks,

were sure we got 2 good and clean mags? they will get dirty down inside ,and not a bullet profile it don't like? Is this only with the top bullet in the mag when fully loaded?? Ain't like a ruger p series to not feed ammo
And when you load that 1st round .... are you simply releasing the slide lock or pulling the slide all the way back then letting it fly forward as in my opinion you should be doing?

A while back, we had this similar situation with a Sigma 40, I sat there and watched the shooter, and there did not seem to be a limp wrist situation... So i started to pick his rounds out of the air. First, they did not all go the same direction, second they all had a kink in them, third, when there was a misfeed, there was always a kink in the round. We inspected the rounds in the box, perfect, changed the mag, no kinks, bad mag!!!

People have a tendency to learn on TV. They ram the mag up like a jack hammer, and bend the lips on them. Mag bent, wont feet, the slide comes back and slaps the bullet kinks it, and it will not feed now...
You just need to analyse where the problem occurs, could be while feeding, could be while ejecting, could be the barrel or ramp is bad. There is not one simple solution, you have to study the gun to see what IT is doing, some guns just dont like certain bullets.

PS. I dont go with the oil, to me a dry mag and mostly dry gun functions much better then an oily one any day. Oil attracts dust, bullets are propeled by a dust, burn some spill it on oil you have the best abbrasive in the world.

Yes when I am releasing it I am just pulling it back full and releasing it. Also it was happening when firing when it was the 3rd or 4th round in the magazine that didn't load. I also have both factory and aftermarket magazines and they both seem to be having the issue so I am leaning away from it being a magazine issue. I have even loaded just a couple rounds in the magazine to see if perhaps I was trying to jam too many in there and it was in the mag too tight and it did it with the few in the magazine too.

Thanks for the info so far, keep em comin

New ammo type? Worn recoil spring? Have you cleaned your extractor lately? If you don't know how to remove it flush it out with lighter fluid and make sure it moves freely. Those are the three big things that cause a gun to stall rounds on the ramp when it had otherwise run them before.

You should have come and found me... It could be a bunch of different things, other that what was suggested to check and clean, I'd have to see it to check it out...

For the record, I have about 4,500 rounds through mine so far and not a single hiccup... That doesn't include how many the previous owner had put through it (bought gently used...) lol

Yeah up until just recently the ruger has been a very reliable gun. I am off the next 3 days so I am gonna try and clean the extractor some more and see if I can get it working a little better. Really hope it's not something more serious that that

Good plan... If it keeps on doing it even after it's cleaned and lubed, then we'll look at other avenues... Lighter fluid and brake cleaner work good, don't leave residue... Just don't get it on the frame and all will be good...

Thanks,

Has the gun ever been detail stripped and cleaned part by part? Are the mags new with the gun and how old are they? Buy a brand new mag (it never hurts to have extra) and run it and if you still have the same problem, have someone else run it who is familiar with that particular firearm.

When you buy a Glock 19, I know someone who can change the slidelock lever .
