Default Re: Non Glock Polymer framed pistol's

I'm 60 years old. I've been shooting handguns and rifles for over 48 years. I'm also an Army veteran of the late 1960's and early '70s with combat experience. I'm a bit conservative, not only politically, but with respect to my choice in weaponry. When the 'plastic' pistols began making an appearance and I "needed" a high cap 9mm, I chose a S&W Model 915 with an 'alloy' frame over a Sigma 9 with a 'plastic' frame. Plastic guns can't be any good, said the guy I knew at the gun store. A couple years, about 8, later - I broke down and bought a SIG Pro 2340 Blue Line (Siglight night sights) in .40 S&W because I knew I could get a factory, drop-in barrel chambered for the .357 SIG round to give me a dual caliber gun, I really wanted to try the new .357 SIG being a really big fan of the .357 Mag - and the price at $550 was right about what I wanted to spend. I "fell in love" with the Sig 'plastic' gun during the first range session. It shot both calibers with excellent accuracy (point of aim) and excellent precision (repeatable hits to point of aim.) Only thing I didn't especially care for with the 2340 was the "top heavy" feel which increased as the 12 round mag. began to empty. But I got used to it. About 4 years later, I had the opportunity to buy a Steyr M-40 compact plastic, super Glock design from a dealer buddy. It was the last one he had before the "updated", fewer featured Steyr came out and he offered it to me below his cost - I bought it, fired it and it is now my CCW 90% of the time. I have about 2 dozen other semi-autos, about 1/3 of which are suitable for CCW, but this one (the STEYR) is so light, convenient and easy to bring into service, that it rides with me whenever I'm not carrying a revovler. True story, true experience - we're never too old to learn new tricks, and develop new habits. There IS a place for the "plastic" guns and usually it is in your CCW holster, when you're out and about.

Agreed and +1 for the wisdom!

I agree with the consensus on these guns, but not the price. Bill T.

Talk about laughing your arse off - Wow!

So you sold an XD40, and you want to put the money into a Rohrbaugh 9! You, also, think that Glocks are cheap. Know what? When, 'push comes to shove' I'd sooner be holding onto a G-19 than one of those remarkably inconsistent and finicky Rohrbaugh's.

Heck, I'd rather be holding onto ANY 3rd generation Glock! Weren't any of you guys at that demonstration the Rohrbaugh factory rep put on outside of Quakertown a few years ago? He absolutely convinced me that the Glock on my hip had been (and is) the right choice!

Before I owned one, I didn't like Glocks either; I, still, don't like the cockamamie, 'trigger safety'; but, the Glocks I have are absolutely reliable and very fast firing. The trigger reset is the best of all the polymer frame guns; and, next to reloading, I really enjoy doing all my own Glock modifications and gunsmithing. After 5 years of tinkering with Glocks there is nothing I can't: change, modify, or fix on a Glock WITHOUT the factory's assistance.

I, even, like the wide backstraps on some of the Glocks; contrary to what I often read, a wide backstrap makes a Glock more comfortable to shoot over an extended period of time. If you didn't like the XD, I think you could really learn to hate a Rohrbaugh: frequent spring changes, finicky appetite, and a remarkable tendency to jam up, over and over again.

(I saw it with my own eyes on a factory pistol, operated by a factory representative. That little sucker just wouldn't work - not for, even, 5-6 shots in a row and with a factory man behind the trigger!)

I was only asking questions about the Rohrbaugh. I never bought one, Mostly because I never heard much good about them.

What I did buy is a SigPro SP2022. And I LOVE this pistol. Some day I will post my review about it. When I have more time.

If you love your Glock that is fine in my book. Who am I to tell you not to. I never did say that to anyone and never will. I only wanted to look into other brands when I started this thread.

My $.02 (which I will not be spending on a Glock.)
