Default New .45 Owner

I recently purchased a used Colt Commander M1991 A1. It's only been a couple of days and I've yet to fire it...Hurry up Saturday!!

After I disassembled and cleaned it I noticed that the clip does not seat fully. It protrudes about 1/16" from the bottom of the pistol, this is with both a full and empty clip. It does positively lock and cannot be pulled (using reasonable force) from the gun w/out first depressing the clip release button. Both clips are Colt manufacture.

Is this normal and if not what could be the cause? The gun appears to have been fired only slightly...

Thanks!

a 1911 does not use clips, rather magazines. there are several guns that use clips, but this not one of them

i would'nt call it ''normal'', it sounds more like a poor finishing job on colt's end.
as long as the pistol functions(the slide does lock back on an empty mag right?) it would be no more than a cosmetic issue.

Where the mag ends up at the bottom is not important, or at least not important other then cosmetics. The important part is that the lips of the mag end up right on top, the bottom can change by changing the mag well. You will notice if you put in a deep magwell, the mag will go in more.

if you can please post a picture of the magazine bottom and the magazine in the weapon.....

and are you certain that the magazines are colt issue?

I have GI, Pachmyr, Mec Gar, and colt and all fit flush with the bottom of my gold cup......

My old commander, may it rust in peace, the magazines fit flush with it.

Figo,
I can't really help you with an answer, just wanted to say "welcome to the forum", and brian already addressed the clip vs magazine issue.

upload it to here, it will even give you the code to post the picture in the forum

But it's probably normal, I've seen quite a few pistols who's magazine protrude slightly from the end. It apparently gives the magazine some play which helps with feeding. I'm actually going to start on the 1911 course DVD tonight (Buddy gave me his at home gunsmithing course to learn) so if I get anymore info from the DVD or the workbook, i'll let ya know.
