Higher priced I know, but the Rodeo is a good value.

As for the others, I think I'd go with the Vaquero although I might let Mr. Linebaugh perform some magic on it.
Looked at US Firearms Web site! DROOL.

Be sure with the other makes that its case hardened if that is what you want, not just case colored.
Thanks, knight0334. I had seen "case colored" in some descriptions.

Does the .44-40 have a kick? The .45LC does not kick like the .45ACP. I am a small person....

Maybe I could get my friend to reload for me...

i could be wrong about this, but none of the ssa on the market today are case hardened. it is just a finish, just that some call it what it is, coloring and some do not. with modern steel there is no need for it.

in it's orignal form, .45 colt was the caliber, it started as martial side arm. it came to be offered in over 30 other calibers. many were sold in 44-40 to allow cross-compatibility with winchester's 1873 rifle, that was pretty popular.

Wait a minute......don't you have a .50 BMG? And you're worried about the difference between a .45 Colt and a .45 ACP??????

Actually, the difference you experienced between the recoil of a .45 ACP round and that of the .45 Colt may have been due more to the design of the firearm in which it was being shot than any actual difference in the cartridge.

The beauty of the SA Revolver is that the "plow-handle" grip allows the gun to "roll" in your hand under recoil, rather than coming more straight back, which may result in more perceived recoil. For a really valid comparison try a Ruger that has both a .45 Colt and a .45 ACP cylinder.

The new Rugers that use the "old" XR3 grip frame are very well suited to people with smaller hands.

Have fun with your quest.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

Why, yes, I do have a .50 BMG. I was just testing you guys to see if you would catch my comment (and remember I have an AR-50). You passed the test, Pizza Bob!!

Anyway, thanks for the info.

Had a Ruger Vaquero in 45lc. I Would recommend it. Got mine for cowboy shooting which I never got into. Sold it. But, it was a great gun.

This thread is making me want to start saving for a USFA double eagle instead of the SBR AR-15 that I've been wanting to start a project on!

Another cool thing is once you get a cowboy gun, you can get a matching cowboy lever action that shoots the same ammo!

Thank you, Lisa.

A possible answer to your conundrum may lie within my first post...

Consider a dual cylinder Ruger. .45 Colt for when the urge strikes you, but the .45 ACP cylinder to keep shooting cost down. Just a thought.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

Oh, sorry for messing up your wish list.

I have considered the lever action/revolver combo.

Thought about this, too. Now I really have my homework to do.
