Would any of you guys know if S&W`s warranty is still good for someone that is not the original purchaser.

I know Springfield Armory, Keltec, and Taurus, all honor warranty`s on used guns.

My lady has her heart set on a 637 and i found a pretty good deal on a used one. However i was not aware of the clearcoat issues until now.

Although I was the original owner of mine, S&W never asked.

I consider it part of the personalization process.
My 637 has some clear coat issues, but I'm OK with it.
Like others said it'll just peel off again.

Unless I were looking to sell the gun or it had some other issue it's just a well loved gun IMO.

I also wouldn't want to swap for a new gun. I already know my gun, and how it shoots.

Trading your 5 yr old gun for a new one sounds like a good deal. If it's a refurbished gun though, I'd stick with the one you have & just remove the rest of the clearcoat if they won't refinish it on warranty.
I'd check with S&W to be sure the "new" gun you'll be getting wasn't someone elses problem gun.

Sig customer service is among the best. Congratulations on your new gun. One tip you might keep in mind is to keep any strong solvents off of the clear surface.

Yeah, im not to concerned. If it does have clearcoat issues, I will probably just strip the finish, and polish, or go with a duracoat, etc.

On another note, Have any of you folks disabled the lock?

I havent heard a lot of issues about them engaging from recoil, etc. save for some 357 models. I probably wont mess with it unless it becomes a problem.

thoughts?

My 638-3 has some peeling issues, it works, and looks like it has been used in the trenches, just like it should......

S&W had alot of issues with the clear coats and now will not refinish your gun, They will send you another though,.
I would keep the one I have and be happy with it, No telling what you'll get back as far as POA and such.
I have a 340PD and the clear coat is chipping a bit, But it's not going back unless something mechanicle goes wrong with it.
