K-var has a wicked good deal on some damn good AK's right now. I would pick one of these over a WASR in a heart beat, they run around 520-530 shipped.

Used glocks happen to be a specialty of summitgunbroker... some killer deals if you can't find them locally for a price with in 30 - 40.

Don't get me wrong, I love the AK. There is no better choice for a SHTF type weapon, period end of story.

But the phrase "High End AK" is an oxymoron of the highest order.

Sure, you can get one with a milled receiver, but all that does is give you a substantially heavier gun with parts compatibility issues.

You know those "high end" Bulgarian AK's that often sell for $700+ in the semi-auto/civilian market? They're the same weapons (except that they're full-auto) we armed the Iraqi security forces with for about $65 each.

Some AK's are better than others, but the price is not necessarily indicative of quality--and it usually is more related to fit and finish--not accuracy, reliability, or overall performance.

Here's an idea. You thought about the Glock & WASR option, how about your Glock and a Romanian Draco pistol? The Draco's are romanian SBR AK's with the original side folding stocks removed. They're going for less than WASR's right now and would give you something a little different to play with.

You have the AK thing. A good 1911 covers your pistol needs. Shotgun in the closet. How about something with more accuracy and range than an AK? A decent .308 bolt gun with useable glass ain't a bad thing to have.

That doesn't mean they aren't cheap, simple, ugly rifles. Spending twice the money on an AK nets you what? It's not likely to be more durable or reliable, nor iy s it likely to be any more accurate or pretty. With the AK, there is a point of diminishing returns, which occurs right after the "it works" mark.
Naw just a simple statement ...they are not a piece of shit & sounds like the guy likes them. No need to be JUST MEAN We have to many mean fuckers out there, we don't need them here to cheap, simple, ugly rifles, would we rather be killed with a expensive complex, pretty rifle?...lol...just humor now...lol

a - You don't sound remotely like a liberal.
b - Didn't know that there were "high end" AKs.
c - The AR is a nice idea.
but
d - spend the grand on ammo and go shoot what you have. Or spend the grand on reloading components and make your own.

I really think there is something to be said about having an exact duplicate of your carry pistol. That way if for whatever reason your primary goes tits up, you can pick up an exact copy of it and not miss a beat. Then there is no learning curve on a new carry gun.

This is why i own 3 g19's.

I do own a couple xd-45's too.

Kb! Bob - I am highly biased in this. I have ALWAYS wanted a "high-end" AK. In the end it will be more useful AND valuable. Just my openly slanted opinion.

Thanks for all the opinions guys! I have done what many say to do, gotten BOTH!! Well, no yet, but soon. I re-ordered my K-Var AK after my FFL fucked it up the first time (and lost my business). I am using a guy who runs his FFL out of his auto repair shop, he was extremely helpful and prompt on the phone even though we have never met. As soon as the rifle actually comes in and I can attest that all is well with my "new guy", I will give out his info for all to have if they need it (if you want it before that PM me, no problem) and I did notice that in his limited stock is a new Glock 21sf with nightsights at a fine price, so the LEAST I can do to say thank you is pick that up, right?!?!?!

imho, yes. but not two different pistols if those are the only two you own.

imho, you should buy a second copy of your carry gun.

if you are ever involved in a shooting, the police will hold your carry gun for evidence. it would be nice to have a second one to carry until you get it back.

for example, you shoot joe crip. as you and the police are at the scene, all his crip buddies start gathering and pointing their fingers at you/subtly threatening you. so, now you have a bunch of gangbangers who want to kill you, and you have no carry gun.

it's also nice to have a backup carry gun just in case the first one breaks and you have to wait for parts to come in or something.

finally, you should be taking some training classes with your carry gun. it is good to have a second copy to take to the classes as a backup. that way, if your gun goes down, you can just grab the second one and keep on going with the class.

your second pistol should be the exact same as the primary one so that, if any of these scenarios actually happens, all of your training and practice are still directly applicable. you do not have to adjust to a new gun that works differently.

just my 2 cents.
