I have a model 342 in .38 Spl. I love it, but the recoil can be suprising, my friends call it "the angry gun".
Sorry just saw the 357 edit.

Sportsman's Supply in Butler just had one in their case last friday.

I'm beginning to think I'm an advertisement for them.

Ronin has a S&W in 357. What model J frame i dont remember but shooting that thing with the 357 loads is insane... Im not even sure a magnum rifle cartridge has that much kick. Especially since his only weighs between 5 and 7 ounces empty. He likes to say hes a glutton for punishment.

Our one friend nearly dropped it the first time he fired it. It was like watching it jump out of both of his hands.

i've got a 340pd its awful.. and with th trigger pull weight and dao you dont even know when its gonna go off.. i've had it almost hit me in the face not to mention it cuts up my hand... but non the less i love it and wouldnt trade it for anything but the same style model/weightjust with a shrouded hammer(might have to pick up an ounce or 2 with the hammer)

First you say you LIKE the Mossberg recoil, now THIS!

I must be a "manly-man" because I do NOT have any problem with shooting my S&W 642 with .38 S&W Specials.

In ya'lls defense, I do roll-my-own cartridges using low to mid-range powder charges for practice only. I carry with store bought rounds for the ACLU.

You could look for the 'lightest' bullet weight (presumably with a lighter powder charge), at least for practice. Save the elephant loads for CCW, you may be less likely to flinch in a pinch.

Had I thought I would have bought a shrouded hammer vs. a concealed hammer for the ability to cock the weapon for single action accuracy or half cock it to revolve the cylinder just in case of a high primer or other jamb.

FWIW
