Glock getting more of these police contracts with the 45 GAP is because they can't give these things away plain and simple.
They are offering them at way discounted rates cause they have to do something before it all goes down the toilet which in do time it will.
This is just my opinion but the 45GAP is a flop.

What Glock should have done was apply the slimline design of the Glock 36 to the rest of the product line by producing thinner full sized guns in 9mm, .40 and .45 ACP with single stack, 7-10 round magazines. They would have sold like hotcakes to people that can't fit the grip of a full sized double stack Glock in their hands.

Hey Quarterbore, nice to see you made it to the forums here.
Hi Rob,

I actually found my way here because of this but I see why you like this site.

Lots of good stuff here and it is mostly local!

So my gunsmith friend and I pull out a chrono and take some readings, and they were really all around 3,725fps-3,750 something fps. When I asked the gunsmith what he thought of that, he laughed and said, they pad their numbers, and have been doing that for a while.
Fact. The listed muzzle velocities are averages through a test barrel, a 5" one at that. But they are representative of the performance you can expect from your pistol barrel.

When I started using my own chronograph, it was an eye-opener. Extreme spreads were as high as 100 fps. These were handloads weighed out on a digital scale.

As for "+P", there is no SAAMI standard for the "+P" designation. So much the same way you can overload a 45ACP by an extra 2000 psi, you could also do the same for the GAP, at your own risk. Now some cartridge companies make a +P and a 45 super cartridge which have more brass in their web.

So, the bottom line, ballistically the GAP is similar to the ACP. Therefore, it can be expected to be an effective caliber.

I read an article in Guns and Ammo where the writer feels the GAP is heading to the bone yard. Plus it gives police departments but another reason to trade in another line of guns.

Time will tell......................

Nope - ALL uniformed troopers are switching to G37s - plainclothes might switch from their G23s. Also, the NY State Police and the GA State Patrol/GBI have also switched to Glocks in .45GAP recently.

I agree Karys! Especially the .45 ACP ,even add a slightly longer barrel to boot.

It's been almost a year since this was posted but it answered some questions I was going to ask. I have had my G37 for just over 3 years now and I have to say it is a great gun. I have smaller hands and I liked it over the 45acp. It has plenty of power and the recoil is no worse than any other of similar caliber.
The downfall of the GAP is the ammo is extremely expensive and it is getting hard to find casings to reload them. When I do find them the price is getting expensive. My solution is to keep my 45GAP as my home defensive pistol and get a 45acp for my carry pistol. The 45acp casings are common and easy to find and the commercial rounds are still cheaper than the 45gap.
Besides, it gives me a reason to buy another pistol.
