I have an 1860's Cooper handgun passed down thru the ages in pieces. It's missing a hammer, some screws and a flat tension spring in the handle that looks like it goes into the trigger mechanism has a tooth broken off. I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks. Steve
PS. I've added some pictures. I'm still trying to work out responding to you guys. I've sent replies. Hope you get them. You folks are terrific. I'm a poor Catholic boy from West Philly; captured by a Lutheran and carried to Chicago many years ago. It' been tough. Last edited by Steve Bergin; May 31st, 2007 at 02:06 PM. Reason: Add Pictures |

From the sound of it your gun might be a copy of a 1860 Colt Army, or similar. They used a flat spring for the hammer and such and reproduction parts are available from most Civil War re-enacting sutlers (Venders). Check it out if it is close to what you need I might have one laying around..

Is you pistol like this one?
If so check out parts for a 1851 Colt Navy This is a J. M. Cooper Pocket Model 1862 Philadelphia Third Model Serial #11522 (Serial Number Range 1 - 15000 for all models) 4" Octagonal Barrel, .31 Caliber 6 shot cylinder percussion. Very closely resembles the Colt Pocket Model Manufactured 1862-1869 after the expiration of Colt's major patents. Hope that helps Mike |

A possibility for parts is www.jackfirstgun.com He carries many, many parts for old and obsolete firearms. His catalog is 2400 pages (2 volumes). His website has a phone number that you can call also.
