I have a fairly realistic Walther P99 Airsoft, and while it's fairly accurate, there is no comparison to shooting the real thing. Trigger pull and recoil really make a difference when actually shooting.
That said, I've seen a very interesting copy of the HK VP70, which uses 'green gas' to shoot and function. The pistol is about actual weight and the gas both fires the pellet and works the slide. Something like that would be more realistic in trying to learn to shoot a specific gun. (Of course it also fires on full auto, which makes it a lot more fun.) The green gas guns are more expensive but they usually make up for it in realism. |

Try this out.
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/c....aspx?a=455798 I have read somewhere, I think in SPG magazine description, that the weight and trigger pull are very close to the real thing. Its CO2 powered so you will run into some extra expense buying the 12g CO2 cartridges, but not much. i remember getting a box of 25 for around $6 about 5 years ago. If you fire slow you can get about 200 shots before its empty. If you shoot too fast the CO2 escapes too fast and it will freeze cutting your shots to about 60 per cartridge. I hope this helps.

People always recommend dry firing their pistol, I don't see how this is any different. Plus you are shooting something. I would imagine you can get some kind of group even with an airsoft. For practicing drawing, getting on target and firing I think this would be a good idea. Especially if it's a replica of your real gun. I don't know how much you'll increase accuracy, but you could definitely speed up your draw and target aquisition. Shooting anything is good! Another thing to consider is looking into reloading and shooting at a public range. Pocono Pistol Club is REALLY expensive.

At my absolute worst, I get golf-ball sized groups at 15-20 feet with my airsoft gun if I'm working for accuracy.

EulogyADD,
Thats the exact airsoft replica I have. The slide isnt funtional and the weight is off but otherwise, it's the same size and feel. It's a great little piece too.. CO2 is still very cheap at Walmart. It's surprisingly powerful making quick work of tin cans, plastic bottles and groups of less than 3 inches at 30 feet is easy for about 85% of the shots. Probably could be more without wind and jitters. |
