Default Tight Mag ?

loaded my new Springield 1911 and loading the mag it felt very tight at the mouth, but when i put the mag in the pistol and racked the slide it jammed!
the bullet wouldnt let loose of the mag i had to wiggle and work the slide a few times to get it loaded..

is this just normal tight new gun stuff?
or is this somethign that needs addressed ?

My ruger sr9 was like that, though I didn't have any jambs. I left the mags loaded and after a week or so they are much better. Much easier to load

Did you strip and clean and lube the pistol beforeall that?

And clean the mag, inside and out, too. Stamped mag-followers often have burred edges making sticking a lot more prevalent.

Load/unload it a few times, then see what happens. If that doesn't help, disassemble mag, check follower and spring, deburr as neccessary. Perhaps there is a small burr on the inside of the feed-lips (occasionally seen with brand new mags, too).

Maybe also it is a ramp issue - lightly polish feed ramp, maybe. Don't go overboard on this jus yet, though.

Exacrly WHERE did the jam occur, and exactly HOW means a lot to debugging this issue.

yes everything has been cleaned and oiled..

the jam was the very first round being chambered.. as the slide moved forward the bullet did not feed, it was pushed out of the mag only slightly.
like i said i worked the slide a few times and it went in,, i think maybe the mag lip might need cleaned up some i dont know what i need to do that with though.. somethings i need to learn apparently !

Just a light polishing on the inside of the mag lips with a soft Arkansas stone will remove burrs from the stamping process and allow the round to move smoothly forward when moved by the breech-face..

The slight polishing of the feed ramp will cause the bullet to begin its tip-up when it hits the ramp.

Easy does it ! But it may take a couple of times around to finish the job. Better to polish too little than too much.

After you got the first round to feed did you shoot, what happened with the following rounds if you did?

How did you release the slide to feed the first bullet?

Did you have a problem getting the magazine to catch?

If you insert a full magazine and press the magazine release is it overly hard to release the fully loaded magazine?

mag works perfectly to slide in and out

My LCP will misfeed the first round occasionally. So far, retracting the slide and letting it slam forward does the trick.
I'm not, and make sure you're not, riding the slide forward with your hand!!

I have had wide mouth hollowpoints do this with a Glock 19. Can't recall the ammo brand, but I don't use it anymore (one box was enough).
