I own 2 (6" and 2 - 3/4" SS) and I am looking for the 4" SS version. I have had mine since 1980 and I have never had a problem with either one.

You are a fortunate person. I kick my butt every morning for trading away mine years ago. I was dumb enough to think they'd always be around. I have several other Rugers but I miss my Security Sixes and my Service Six 2.75".

Here's a link to the manual in pdf format.

If it's anything like the Redhawk action, I have no doubts about your praises.

Ruger's on-line manual library:

To correct a small piece of mis-information contained earlier in this thread. From the PSP website:

"In June 1980, Department members were issued a new sidearm, the .357 magnum Ruger, a stainless steel, four-inch barrel revolver. It was the first major change in State Police issued weaponry in its 75-year history."

I really enjoyed my security 6 when I had it. IMHO the Ruger SS6 is a rugged and durable gun its doesn't have the graceful ines of the S&W 19-66 but its built tougher there is no warning that say limit the use of 357 ammo. The SS6 almost look like a SA revolver until you check how it works, its accurate and reliable it was also one of the revolvers that law engorcement officers could carry. I like the sleeker look of the SS6 over the GP100. Though I like both guns.

$216 that was a great deal fingers..., most K frames smiths are $450-$500 guns.
