Default Just got a Kel-Tec P3AT

Just picked up a Kel-Tec P3AT (2nd generation) today. I wanted something very small for CC in the summer. Does anyone have any experience with these? The shop told me that it's a very safe gun and I could carry it cocked. It just makes me nervous that there is no safety but rather just an internal hammer. What do you guys think?

They got a nice long trigger pull and are double action. I wouldnt think twice about carrying it. Break it in though. At least 250 rds before carrying. Learn it well and it should serve you well. A good pocket holster is a must to help keep lint, dust, whatever out of the pistol. Escpeally, because it is a semi-auto.

You will definately get years of service from it. But definately get a pocket holster. We had a guy buy one from us and he carried it lose in what he called his EMPTY front pocket. The only problem he had was when he mistakenly dropped his pocket knife in with the Kel-Tec!! He got lucky, he was walking across the parking lot when the knife got in the trigger housing and set the gun off. The bullet missed his leg exited his pants and ricochet off the black top.

Just remember that the safety is between your ears. They really are great guns for the money, IMHO. Just watch the front of the slide, the guide rod hole on some slides has peened out and let the inner recoil spring escape. Ktog.org is a good site to check out for more information, if you haven't already visited it.

Thanks people. Yeah, the thing was so new that I hadn't even played with it before starting this thread. I have played with it now so I see that it is DA only and acts alot like a revolver. No cocked pin situation with out the existence of a safety. Glad I posted though. This forum has some serious knowledge on board.
Thanks again.

I was going to suggest joining KTOG as well. Kel-Tec Owners Group. Make sure you put PAFOA in your sig line.

Provided that you have a good pocket holster(protects the trigger) you'll be fine.
Don't go with some cheap soft thing either. Find one you like and try to pull the trigger(unloaded please)while holstered.

Thanks. Nice forum there. A lot of people suggested KTOG.org but it says, on the site, that it was last updated in 2002. Also, along the left side where the models are listed, there is no P3AT. I didn't spend much time there but seemed outdated. I may have done a copy/paste of an old llink that was still active. I'll check it out again.

Anyone have a good source for the extended mags?
