My brother just bought an M&P 9mm and it is one fine machine(he lets me touch it sometimes). Very accurate, comfortable in the hand, sized to conceal easily, a neighboring P.D. recently switched to the M&P as duty weapon for all their officers. Can't go wrong with the M&P...Mike45

I just bought the Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm compact just thursday. I chose the compact for a couple reasons, 1) it is a good size concealment weapon and 2) my wife seemed to like it better than the full size. My duty weapon is the Sig P228 so I need to use the magazine extension for the M&P compact.

I just bought the mp compact 40 its a great gun, small, easy to conceal, light, very accurate and fits good in my big hands. But the best thing about it is the 3 inserts they give you for the back of the grip for you palm. gives you a better feel. I think your wife would love that gun.

I have only handled one in the store. The pistol felt fine. I am sure it handles well. But it does have some features that I do not care for. It has a magazine safety. To disassemble it, one must depress a sear disconnector. I'll pass on these.

In all honesty it only takes about 2 seconds more than a glock to disassemble.

I'm pretty sure you can get one without the mag safety.

The sear disconnector deal seems a bit strange to me too. It's there for the people too dumb to check the chamber before pulling the trigger to disassemble.

Yes, you are now able to get an M&P without a mag safety. I think you're wrong about the purpose of the sear disconnect though. The sear disconnect is there for two purposes: 1) so the operator is forced to open the chamber before disassembling, and 2) so that the trigger doesn't have to be pulled during disassembly at all. This makes it damn near impossible to shoot yourself during disassembly, thus making it a feature that's pretty tough to not like...

I have an M&P9. Seems to load, fire and eject any ammo I use. After a trip to S&W to fix the front sight (7 days from send to receive), it shoots pretty much POA. Disassembly is easy and quick. As said earlier, the sear disconnect takes a couple of seconds.

I have an M&P9, and have shot approx 1500 rounds through it without a single failure. Absolutely love this gun, completely ambdextrous, and carries well.

BTW, for those interested, Crimson Trace announced laser grips for the M&P. The setup simply replaces the removable backstrap. Take a look at this post on the M&P forum for pics:
