Congrats. on the new Ruger! I don't have the Hunter but I have a stainless New Super Single Six 22lr/22wmr with a 6 1/2" barrel. It is one of my favorite handguns. Built like a tank, good looking and a tack driver. Always gets plenty of looks at a range esp. people shooting high dollar hand cannons, and I just keep reaching into my $12.00 bulk pack box of ammo to reload, which makes it more fun!
Good luck with it! |

Don't have a new one or a stainless one, but my 1987 model is still going strong. Would not give it up.
I have put a Wolff spring kit in it, 19lb hammer and 30oz trigger and it got even more accurate. Indoors at 15 yards I can print nickle sized groups (two handed, no rest). www.gunsprings.com Also I've had zero FTF with the 19lb spring and I've got well over 500 rounds since I did it.

I have a blued N6 super single six. Darned enjoyable revolver. I'm sure your stainless Hunter will be a pleasure to shoot.
There are a couple of problems with the single six. For me the name of the problem is "Blackhawk." Since buying the SS, I've been forced to get a couple of Blackhawks.

nobody ever had problems with one?
I bought a new one 2 years ago. 6.5" SS with both cylinders. If you loaded all 6 chambers you were lucky to shoot it 18 times before the cartridges would get hard to slide into the cylinder, to the point that your finger would hurt from trying to drive them home. Many times mine would lock up because a cartridge was not seated all the way, causing the cylinder to jam at it was rotated. Just pull the cylinder and run a brush through each chamber and you were good to go, for another 3 loads or so. Did this no matter what ammo I ran. Then when it was time to clean it you needed a dental pick to remove the lead chunks from between the top of the frame and barrel. One time it started key holeing on me. Cleaning it I found there was lead in the start of the barrel so bad I could not get a cleaning rod through it (after maybe 100 rounds). After working on it for a while this big chunk of lead came out and I could get the cleaning rod through. mind got traded in on a Uberti cattleman. |
