I`m curious, on a DAO pistol why do you feel the need for a thumb safety? Not one revolver I own has one and I never use the one on my PT145.

1. Sig Sauer P220 SAO (might be too heavy)

2. Obviously any 1911, 2011 or Para Hicap (a 1911 commander or compact/officers/micro, an STI Tactical 4.15 or the VIP shouldn't be too heavy but probably more $$$ than you want to spend - some of Para's offerings might be in your budget though)

3. Jericho 941 (probably too heavy)

4.Wilson Combat KZ45 and Wilson Combat KZ45 Compact (smaller version)

5. Kimber BP 10 II and Kimber BP 10 II Pro (smaller version, commander sized)

6. Charles Daly M5 (Hi-cap polymer 1911-style pistols)

7. Springfield Armory XD models with Thumb Safety

8. FN FNP SAO (have to find a used one, they don't make those anymore IIRC)

-Check out the Bersas. They have an "Ultra Compact" 9mm with ambidexterous thumb safety.

-As NineSeven noted above, Springfield now offers thumb safeties on some of the XD line.

-Also I believe most Taurus semi-autos have thumb safeties.

Default Re: CC pistols with thumb safeties?

I asked this question because it seems to me that many of the guns I go to look at and end up liking only have a trigger and/or grip safety (Glocks, M&Ps, and the XDs I've handled thus far). I guess I never realized that it's pretty much only the guns that I look at that seem to not have a thumb safety...most of the other manufacturers still seem to make theirs with thumb safeties.

Glad to hear I have so many options!

I noticed the change in the list from "Bersa .45" to "Bersa's", but you also need to add Firestorm to your list. Bersa and Firestorm are both made at the same manufacturing facility in Argentina, and both are imported into the US by Eagle Imports, but there are minor differences between the guns. Regardless, all of the Bersa and Firestorms guns have a decocker.

Colt Government in .380 (think miniature 1911) not great out of the box, but replace the guide rod and then you got something that may fit the bill. But be forewarned they are out of production and may command a premium as collectors seem to like them somewhat.

Ruger also has the SR9 with a thumb safety as well as a trigger safety.
