Help Identifying S&W Pistol

I purchased an old Smith revolver and am totally ignorant of how to identify. Shotguns are my "thing". On the barrel it reads "22 Long Rifle CTG". The serial number is "K 35240". When I open the cylinder it reads "W 3" and below that is "1806 8". I tried looking in the gun books, but didn't have any luck identifying it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, George

Guessing an older K22...

In case you didnt' see the other thread, the serial number is K 35240. The only information I can see when I open the cylinder is "W 3" and below that is
"1806 8". It has a 6" barrel -- reads "22 Long Rifle CTG".

Appreciate your help in identifying and/or valuing this gun. I don't mess with pistols much (usually sxs's), but I ran across this one and bought it. I haven't been able to tie any of this information together from the gun books I have available. Thanks, George

I just showed those pics to my dad, both he and my uncle have K22's. He said yours looks like my uncle's, and like my dad's except that his only has a 4" barrel.

Dad paid $50 for his used w/holster and a couple boxes of ammo back in 1966. My uncle paid $450 for his last year.

I'm almost certain its a K22.

It is a K-22 Masterpiece.

Postwar, 3rd Model. Also called the "Pre-Model 17."

Your particular gun, based on the serial number, was made in mid-1948.

Worth, in excellent condition, $700+ if you have box and papers.

They're legendary guns -- definitely something to keep for your kids.

And you probably got a great deal on it, simply because you wouldn't pay hundreds of dollars for it if you didn't know what it was. I'm green with envy
