Default Its only a firly gun if you think it

Some of you might remember the earlyer movies by Aronld Schwarzenegger One of the movies I am thinking of, his gun of choice is a rugger .22 ! Oh of course it looks more dangerous because of the attachments and it is made to look like a big gun. But under all the decorations, was the body of a mark ll.

Interesting some times how people see the size and color of a gun as dangerous or not. The wife had a lady smith mod.36 at one time, I could hide it in my hand. Every one thought it was a sweet little woman gun...
It was 38+P rated, and believe me, in that calliber it kicked a punch.

Seeing it only had a 1 inch barel, every one also thought that it was inaccurate, untill they saw her pull it out at the USPSA one day, there was a small plate, 3 cardboards, and an other plate, you had to shoot 3 rounds each cardboard, then drop the shilouettes at 15 yards. We all watched in anticipation knowing the score would be low because it was a revolver and every one else used pistols, yet she actually beat the scores of some of the pistols !

This little 5 rounder she had to load, speed load and still one bullet would be needed to fire the last plate if she did not miss a shot, so off she went with her first 5 shots, then speed loaded to continue, her last shot she decided to place a single bullet in the chamber. I still remember as she loaded the bullet, turned the gun to the target and R Morris next to me went "Click" but the gun went bang, and the plate came down. Every one figured she would have to shoot dry before she hit the chamber, yet her training was good enough to know just where to place the bullet to shoot it on the first try.

The Lady Smith really does look girly, but ill tell you what, If i needed a backup that was almost invisible, that is the one i would choose!

So remember, it's only a girly gun if you choose to make it that. All guns have the same potential, but depending on who is using it, the milage may vary. If the gun fits well in your hand, and you feel comfortable using it, beats any big gun you cant hold that you will shoot wild with. My wife cant get her finger up to the trigger of a 1911, so that gun for her would be usless, She does not like the Sigma 9mm, (the empty shells hit her in the head) yet my model 66 in .357 she will shoot and not worry about a thing.
At 50 yards she can hit a 4 inch plate 4 out of 10 tries with open sight on her single 6 Ruger .22, and to me that says much more then missing it 10 out of 10 with a .45

Default Glocks

Go to IDPA.com look up the tactical journal for '05 and look at the equipment
survey, look at the breakdown of guns used. The Glocks must be ok.

Plus when you rack the slide, the recoil spring will remind you of loading plastic darts into a toy gun as a child.

Boys, stop defending the Glocks. I know you've drank the koolaid and believe. I'm not really attacking them, I'm just taking playful swipes because Glock lovers are so easy to rile up.

Going back to post #1 regarding the Glock 21.

I love that gun. It is large but comfortable in my hand and I shoot it better than my carry guns. If I get one , it will be consigned to be my car gun or HD gun (maybe a winter under the coat gun as someone else posted).

I was at a turkey shoot in Monongahela a few years back and a guy who used to be a local PD chief had a Sigma. As Frenchy said ,it fit my hand better than my Glock23 and 32. He let me shoot about 4 mags which I loaded with Blazer. Every other shot would not fire and I had to rack the slide to the next round which did go off. His carry ammo fed and fired fine (don't remember type of ammo). I picked up my unfired ammo, loaded my mags and the Glock fired them all. Perhaps the chiefs gun needed some maintenance but that pistol left a bad impression on me.

The 1911's I shot had about the same results as the 21. I shot them quite well. I think the downside to the 1911 is the amount of work you have to do after it comes out of the box. I'm not saying this from experience but from conversations with numerous 1911 owners. Trigger jobs, mag rebuilds. I don't remember all of it but the advice one person stated was "once you get your 1911, find an excellent pistolsmith and have him rework and tune the pistol".
I'm sure a dozen guys or better will tell me that their 1911 functioned perfectly out of the box but the guys I talked to are excellent pistol shooters and I value their opinions.

I do think I may get a S&W M&P in either the .40 or when the 45ACP comes out. The interchangable grips HAVE to fit better.

They do. Wish I could get my hands on the LE version.

Default Re: Your Valued Opinions On The Glock 21

Wow! Lots of opinions from people who either don't own, don't use, or don't know their butt from a hole in the ground when it comes to a Glock Model 21.

I've carried one (almost) everyday, now, for the past 6 years. I know how to dress around and move while wearing a pistol; and, for a fact, nobody has, 'made me' in at least the past 3 years - No one at all, not even when I'm at church!

The G-21 isn't difficult to shoot. The wide backstrap is actually more comfortable and easier to hold onto for an extended period-of-time than other pistols with much narrower frames. I'm older and my hands are slightly arthritic; I find the G-21's wide backstrap to be perfect for 2 or 3 hours of range use.

If you know the difference between your rear end and a hole in the ground then you will appreciate that it's how you dress AND the holster you use that most affects how well your pistol remains hidden. A loose or a thin belt will give you away every time. OTB holsters worn on the point of your hip are, also, a no-no. Always try to use a holster that pulls the end of the frame, tight, into your body.

Me? I love my G-21 pistols. I've no doubt that I'll be carrying them for the rest of my life, too. They are extremely soft-shooting and very easy to control during rapid fire events. My hands are not unduly large; however, this is the only shortcoming I can see with the G-21. If you have to shift your grip in order to release a magazine; or if the distal joint of your trigger finger doesn't lie in front of the trigger's face when it is in the full forward position, then, a G-21 might not be the best choice for you to make.

(Shifting your grip in order to get at the mag release is no big deal, though. You can always use the thumb of your support hand to do this if you really have to.)

One of my G-21's -

Typical 16 yard accuracy -

Needless to say, I'd wholeheartedly recommend a 3rd generation standard magazine release and light rail Model G-21 to anyone who fits the gun. (Stay away from the model with the ambi mag release; and, if you find any good use for that frame with the Picatinny rail on the dust cover I'd really like to know.)

+1, Rep sent.

I'm on my second Glock 21, and if not for financial reasons, I would still be on that first one. Excellent weapon, fires consistently and accurately. As stated, if you can hold comfortably, I recommend them wholeheartedly.

My Glock 21 is probably the most comfortable gun i've ever shot. Before I bought it I thought the frame might be too big- Not at all. I prefer it to some smaller frame guns that are way too thin to be comfortable.
