Default New toy! (okay it's a few weeks old now but hey...)

My relatively new PT1911 with factory night sights. I added the Pachmayr American Legend grips (had to dremel the right one for the ambi-safety) and Kimber magazine:

Looks good, TC! I really like the flat bottom mag! I'll have to get a couple for mine. (Or some flat floor plates to remove the bumper) I'm surprised you put it down long enough to snap a few pics! LOL

Factory night sights?! i have been trying to find night sight s for mine since i got it , almost a year ago. But the hiene cut is apparently not compatable with most night sights. Did you buy the gun with them already or did you order them from hiene or taurus?

Great looking 1911. I like the grips, they look very comfortable.

About the night sights... They are Heinie "straight eight" trijicons. I bought the pistol new and it was a factory option. It was listed at $649, about $100 more than the standard model I saw a day earlier at Freedom Armory (that one is gone now too). I hadn't seen the night sights on one before and it was the only one GM had so I ponied up and bought it.

Did you try to call Taurus? They gotta be able to get you a set... they make their own Heinie sights under license from Heinie.

********************

About it shooting...

What else can I say except that it is a 1911, and a pretty damn good one. Far better than anyone can expect from a 1911 at the price they are. It would have been 100% reliable if not for today's exception: I had, on 2 occasions, the first manually chambered round nose dive into the feed ramp. This happened only with Black Hills 230 gr. JHP (new loads) and also the Kimber mag, which is brand new. They were the only exceptions and after the first 2 mag fulls even they worked fine. Winchester white box 230 grain ammo in both FMJ and JHP all fed reliably in all mags and the Black hills cycled flawlessly with the factory mags... go figure. Possibly the Kimber mag needed a little breaking in... I ran several more of all three rounds after the first two failures with 100% reliability. I feel good about it but the next trip should be the real indicator.

The trigger is a good trigger. Not outstanding but I was pleased with it. It breaks cleanly with very little creep and if I had to guess I'd say in the 4 pound range. 5 at the absolute most. I will most likely leave it as-is and expect it may be even smoother as time goes on.

Accuracy was excellent. On several occasions some of the guys working at the range I frequent have mentioned that I should shoot IDPA, and today was the first day I actually felt that to be plausible. I don't have pics but this thing is a dream to shoot with the combo of a good trigger, really comfortable grips, and it being well sighted in from the factory. These sights are dead on at self defense range (21'), and at 25 yards I had the best groups I ever had with a handgun at this distance. My Springfield EMP may have been easier to shoot rapidly at self defense range but I could never have groups like the PT1911 had at 25 yards.

Overall it feels awesome in my hands, it is quite accurate, with that mags that came with it it has been 100% reliable and functional. It pains me I had those 2 FTF's with the Kimber mag but I think that will work itself out.

I have always called the Springfield XD the best value in pistols. My new PT1911 from Taurus has me re-thinking that.

Nice looking grips.

Every 1911 I've fired has shot well. I've had a PT1911 for about 18 months and it's proven to be an above-average shooter. Nice report on the pistol.
