Smile Re: Trading my taurus for a glock?

I am truly a 1911 type of guy. I love everything about them. But, I have to admit that ever since I bought my Glock 32. I rarely carry either of my Kimbers. I shoot them at every range trip. But 13 rounds of 357 Sig makes me feel a bit more safe.

Best of luck with your new purchase. Your best defense is the gun you shoot the best. So practice every chance you can.

Putting a $300 laser on a $300 gun just seems silly to me. Why not get a great gun with night sights for the same money?

Lasermax's are a gimick...save your cash for ammo and training.

Congrats on the Glock, you made a great choice.

I must disagree synergy. I have a Glock 31 that I have spent probably close to $1,000.00 on accessories for. I have an Advantage Arms .22 conversion kit for it. I have a competition (ported) 9mm barrel for it. I have a C-More sight for it. Hell, I have more ways of configuring that pistol than I can shake a (pointy) stick at!

I also have a Wilson Combat Protector for which I bought a .22 conversion kit (built by Marvel).

I do not believe the original cost of the pistol has anything to do with how much a person can enjoy adding accessories. No matter what a pistol originally costs, it can still be fun to add some accessories. As long as we are actually shooting our pistols we are gaining experience and becoming more familiar with our firearms.

1991? Is that a new type of pistol or was it just a good year for you?

In 1991 I was living in Bedford County. Farming during the day & driving truck for UPS at night. Heck, I'd go back to those days in a heartbeat. Good times.

My point is that the Taurus is a cheap gun, and dumping money into it is foolish, IMO.

I don't have anything against putting a $2500 scope on a $700 rifle...or a ton of stuff on a racing Glock...that's not what I'm getting at.

Point is, is you're gonna sink money into something, do it on a good platform.

Regarding the Lasermax in particular, they suck. Battery life isn't that great, they're fragile, they're not gonna get activated in a gunfight, you can't zero them to your gun, they get covered with GSR instantly and can't even get you through a box of ammo before you have to wipe the lens off...

So why spend $300 on something that does next to nothing for you...when you've previously demonstrated that cost is a significant factor in your carry rig (owning a Taurus)?

Colt makes a model 1991... though, I doubt that's what the OP meant.

Synergy, I concede to your way of thinking.

I agree in the sense that if you are going to add accessories you should have a good platform to add them to. That makes sense.

Syn, I'm the one who mentioned the guide rod laser, not Jailkeeper. And as far as how good they work, you're probably right. I don't know, I've never had one.
However, I totally disagree as to what deserves spending money on and what doesn't based on cost. I know your position on Taurus products and that will never change. Thats cool. But if I paid $50.00 for a used Taurus and it worked flawlessly for 1000's of rounds for me for years and I enjoy it......why shouldn't I spend the money to enhance the pleasure of it? Cause it's an inexpensive gun? Or just because you totally trash everything Taurus?

I'll chime in. I have to agree with synergy. I've owned Tauri before and, for what they are, they are ok. One thing they are not, is a range gun worthy of spending all kinds of money on extras and what-not. They're basically a low-mid quality gun someone buys who needs/wants a gun that can't/won't spend the extra for top-notch guns. So, to spend hundreds of dollars on extras for it seems kinda silly, IMO. You don't see Jerry Mikulek(?) after setting world speed records with his S&W, pull out a Taurus for something else. Just won't happen. It's like buying a Geo then spending thousands on exhaust, tires, wheels, sunroof, stereo, ground-effects etc. But, it's your money. If it floats your boat, go for it.

I just gave my opinion....not like you have to listen to it.

If (and more likely when, in my experience) that Taurus starts acting up....then you have $300 less in the bank to get a replacement, and a $300 toy for it, that won't work on anything else.

If you don't like my opinion, that's fine....there are plenty of people who don't.
