Default Range report. XD 45 with pics

Went over to my moms today to visit. It was so nice out to day i took the xd over to shoot it for the first time. i have a target set up over there that i made about a year ago.

Me and my nephew Brandon took turns shooting it .we shot a total of 200 rounds. we shot from 20 feet. 25 feet. 50 feet. 75 feet.

OK the gun was great. not one malfunction. mild recoil. shot full met jackets and hollow points. no problem.

on the other hand we both sucked at shooting it.
we both were hitting to the left. for some reason when i shoot a xd i pull the gun to the left. i do this with my xd 357 sig also. i definitely need to shoot them more. this was the first time i shot in probably 8 or more months.

20 FEET ME. this was shot last

25 FEET BRANDON

25 FEET ME

50 FEET BRANDON

50 FEET ME

75 FEET ME

ALL TARGETS HAD 13 ROUNDS SHOT AT THEM

we shot more with similar results

this is a pic from the 75 foot mark.

There are several reasons for a 9 O'Clock POI.

Come to school.

It's all about proper technique but once learned, it's PFM.

You didn't say if you're RH or LH. If RH, then pulling left is pretty common.

TonyF is right: a little bit of instruction now is better than months of trying to figure it out on your own, and maybe cost effective too, once you factor in all the ammo you'll waste puzzling it out, not to mention the frustration factor and time lost.

I too had a tendency to shoot left (as a RH-er) with Glocks, and had the hardest time figuring out what was going on -- it's very difficult to self-diagnose. Oh sure, you know in general, high-level terms what you're doing, but it's hard to know how to stop doing it. That's where a good trainer comes in -- to diagnose and then recommend drills that make the problem visible and measurable, hence curable.

It wasn't until a trainer a) told me my problem was inadequate weak hand grip pressure and b) recommended the "dot targets"(*) and I spent a month doing nothing but that, that it was forever cured. Note that your specific problem might be different than mine was.

* -- which, btw, in this new era of ever-more-costly ammo, is a highly round-count-efficient drill.

The xd seems to be the only one that i have this problem with.
I'm right handed. and when i dry fire my xd i can see how I'm pulling it to the left. just got to work on this.

Okay a few more words, it ain't that bad. Especially after 8 months of not shooting. More practice and some more familiarity with the gun and you'll start shooting better. Don't get discouraged! Congrats on the XD purchase, if you keep it and practice you'll end up loving it.

Rudy, Congratulations on acquiring an excellent pistol. I don't own an XD .45, but I have two friends that have one and I've had the opportunity to shoot them both. One is a .45ACP. ..the other is.45GAP. Both shoot very well.
Attached is a target that can give you some idea as to why you may be pulling left. I have the same problem and have to really concentrate to correct it.
