Default Purchased a Glock 22 tonight.

Really excited, as this will be my foray into quality pistols, having owned mostly budget military surplus before this point. Just wondering if there are any essential accessories I should purchase (not including holster and other 'indirect' items). Was thinking about a hi cap mag solely for the home defense purpose, since the state sponsored range only allows a 3 round limit. Any suggestions are welcome so I can know what to blow my $600 rebate on.

Lots of ammo, and more mags......keep the pistol stock
and it's "Standard" mags...the 10 rounders are "Castrated" mags....LOL

AMMO AMMO AMMO. .40 ammo is getting very pricey and is only going to increase.

Congratulations on your purchase!

Very well done on your purchase. You will LOVE your G22. I have two Glocks and helped a friend buy his first one.......he also chose to buy a G22. I got to shoot his and I wanted one for myself.

Get a good holster the first time.....don't buy cheap crap b/c it's inexpensive. You'll end up buying two or three times and spending more than what you would have if you had just purchased a higher end holster in the first place. No need to go over $100 on a holster since there are numerous REALLY EXCELLENT options for around the $70 to $90 range.

I would say get some more standard mags..........the standard 15 rd. mags that come with the G22. (I hate it when people refer to them as hi-cap when they are the true standard. Simply my own pet peeve from back in the Clinton ban days) And as others have said....find a deal on ammo and buy several cases. It may seem outrageous to spend hundreds of dollars on ammo at one time, but it is only getting higher in price and if you have no ammo, your brand new G22 will not be very effective when used for throwing.

$600 rebate is spent as follows:
quality holster (many options to choose from) for $90
6 extra G22 mags including shipping for $100
2 cases of .40 ammo with the remaining $410

If I were you, I'd get a decent pump shotgun for home defense since you plan on spending that $600 on gun related stuff anyway. Spend the rest on ammo and mags for the Glock. My .02

Excellent choice you made. My first Glock buy was a used g23 born on Nov.3 1993. She was rebuilt by my gunsmith and is a solid lnib gun. You cannot go wrong with a Glock. A word of advice, when you break her down to clean you will notice two gold stripes on the inside of the slide. These are factory grease stripes that should NOT be removed, they are meant to wear into the metal with use and will provide proper lubrication and protection of slide wear.
Best of luck
