Things to add...
SCAN prior to re-holstering. If you took your gun out, you had a good reason to...there's no reason to be in a rush putting it back in your holster. We fight how we train. Don't just look....SEE what's around you. EX: What do people in the next lane have in their hands? Have your support hand get on the gun closer to your chest. My wrist is within 6" of my chest when I get a full grip built. You can almost think of it like bringing the gun up to high ready, and building your grip there...THEN extending it. Eventually this becomes 1 fluid motion. Practice obtaining a "second sight picture." "Your first shot isn't over until you're ready to fire the second". Fire a round, and get that front sight back on target immediately! Take the slack out of the trigger/ reset the trigger...and then abort the shot. Again, we fight how we train....don't get in the habit of firing a set # of rounds and assuming that'll do the trick. Practice managing recoil/ tracking your sights... even on 1 shot strings. Also, you move your head to the sights, once your gun is extended. Strive for a level of consistency in your training so that as soon as you go for your gun...your body assumes the posture needed to fire the shot. Then do it all with as much stress as you can. Start with your hands full...engaged in a conversation until your partner yells "THEAT!" or "FIGHT!". Practice moving your feet when you draw...even if you can only take 1 step to the side due to the size of the range. Same thing when you go to reload. No problem!
I'm currently working more on trigger prep stuff through the gun presentation. Basically, once your grip is built and your roughly indexed on your target....your finger goes on the trigger and starts taking the slack out...once the gun reaches full extension your finger presses through that last itty-little bit, and breaks as soon as the gun stops moving. Getting that gun up high before you press it out, and getting your head in the right spot early on in your draw....allows you to track your sights AS you extend the gun. Definitely something I need to practice. |

draw on THREAT then fire on FIGHT or reholster on NO THREAT. We shoot how we train. Don't want to start necessarily blasting just because we broke the holster and the gun is in play. Today was 2nd day of Center Axis Relock so those points are still very fresh on my mind because we spent a bit of time on them. My wrists also hurt, feel like I fired over 1K rounds past 2 days.... Oh right.... |

To pretty to stay inside, and it's good for Cathy to get out and about while she recovers from surgery.
