Default New Carry Firearm

Since I am getting my tax money in the next couple days. I am going to purchase a new carry firearm. I currently carry a 1911. My budget is under 600 for my new firearm. I would like some suggestions. I do not really want a 45acp, I was thinking either 40SW or 9mm. I want a new caliber to reload. I do not care for the look of a Glock but I am a little stuck past that.
I am buying a GP100 to replace the one a sold a few years ago and regret ever since, that is why my budget is under 600.00

For CCW?
M&P or XD. Hands down.
You should be able to find M&P 9mm with night sight for less then $550
SR9 arebn't too bad for CCW(due to its slim size), but I still not care for the gritty trigger...

You're buying a new one in addition to the GP100, I assume?

If you don't like Glocks, and want a 9mm or 40 how about:

Used H&K USP compact in 9mm?
New Springfield XD9 or XD9SC?
Used H&K P7 PSP (you can find them for close to $600, but not under)?

Personally, I'd buy a used Glock 19, and spend the $200 left on night sights, two extra magazines, and $100 worth of ammo, but you can't go wrong with any of the above choices...and it's your money, and if you don't like the look, you don't like the look.

CZ 75b in 9mm. Once you shoot one, you'll know.

Actually if you are used to, and like, the 1911 you would probably be better served with either the XD9, XD9sc or the M&P in one of it's configurations. The grip angle is much closer to the 1911 than the G19. I have both a G19 and an XD9 and I find myself shooting the XD much more often. Of course the standard advice I give is to go to a range that rents them and fire as many as you can. That way you can buy the one that you are most comfortable with. Good luck!

Might as well add the CZ P-01 or CZ Compact to that list. I've seen P-01's for around $475.

Yes it would be in addition to the GP100. I had a GP100 a couple years ago and sold it because I needed the money. I am buying one to replace the one I sold.

I'm biased towards any Ruger personally. If you're a bigger guy, such as myself, I would say a P series Ruger... They're built like a tank, but they are on the heavy side... Unlike a Glock or an XD, you KNOW that thing is there... lol

Go check out them all out and see what feels good in your hands. The XD is going to be very similar (grip angle) as the 1911. The M&P just felt weird in my hands after getting used to the XD. They're all great guns.

Depending on how small you want to go, you could always check out the Kahr models.
