Makes perfect sense. Any good gun company gives the people what they want. Some like the thumb safety. Some don't. Bet you can get a bigger safety as a aftermarket item. Also agree with the military and Police side of it. You do what you have to, to make your firearm suit everyone. Just smart salesmanship.
I for one don't like them. But some do.

Anyone know when this will trickle down to the subcompact? I don't think I would mind having one.

The nice thing about it is they are offering the XD45 with and without it so you have the choice. Having it would be fine with me as long as it's as reliable as the rest of the XD because I feel 100% safe with the gun without a safety and wouldn't feel uncomfortable carrying it with a round in the pipe and that manual safety off since you still have the trigger safety and grip safety. It's not like they are making it with a 1911 trigger that has minimal take up before it breaks.

I like it too so I wouldn't mind seeing it as an option across the line but the cost might hold them back. I would think that the decision will be somewhat market driven. If enough people ask for it they would give it a serious look. I do really like my XD-45 Service model. I am not sure that I want to bother trading for a newer one wih the thumb safety but maybe some day. |

I remember seeing that Smith and Wesson did the same thing on their M&P line in 2007. Their full size .45 is offered with an optional ambidexterous frame mounted thumb safety but the safety didn't make it to any of the other models in the line. It looks to me like they are assuming that the military is going to go back to the .45 for their service guns.

fine with me, if they go back to 45 the m9's maybe will sell surplus sometime before i die.

Good move on there part, some really like a thumb safety,I'm sure some have steered clear because it didn't have one, should make sales even better.

I don't think there are many options for polymer-framed handguns with a thumb safety. Having the option to buy the XD with or without the safety is a big plus and smart decision on SA's part.

I don't quite understand what your saying,I stated it was a good move on there part,,are you trying to say there are no other polymer framed guns with a thumb safety?
