I don't know if it is worth $1200, but that is one sweet handgun!

The cocking serrations are useless, you're better off using the rear sight to cock the gun. It is however based on the pre-sereis II frame which means no firing pin safety. If you want a good railed Kimber, get the Warrior, if you don't want a Kimber get the Springfield MC Operator.
I played with a SIS for about an hour one day in CT while the Kimber dealer was in. I was not overly impressed with it compared to other 1911s, hell even other Kimbers for that matter. The one thing I loved about the SIS were the grips. *edited to add. Also, regarding the finish, my hands were bone dry and I coudn't get a good grip on the slide, the combination of the finish and those cocking serrations is just silly. It was like tying to grip a frog covered in Hoppes.

for being "Professional-grade duty and carry .45 ACP pistols designed and commissioned by LAPD’s Special Investigation Section", I somehow failed to see ANY seriousness out of it. Specially with the "SIS" on slide
But grip was nice. Trigger is beautifly weighed, and I love the sight. But my dealer told me that this is supposed to replace TLE(I think). If thats true, thats scarly... http://www.kimberamerica.com/downloads/SIS.pdf |

I don't think that will replace the TLE, that's just wrong, the TLE is one of few Kimbers I'd even think about buying, I've been looking for another 4" to 4.25" 1911 and as much as I hate saying it, the Pro TLE II RL is on my possibles list.

The SIS will not replace the TLE. The TLE is one of the most Populer Kimbers made. I find it interesting that you guys are having trouble with the finish, I guess the "slickness" you feel is from a combination of the Kimpro finish and the carry melt. Just about EVERY Kimber now has the Kimpro finish on it including the TLE. The $1200. price tag is a little high tho. You can do better on it.
The SIS on the slide was an asked for treatment. Personaly I wish they would make the series 1 guns redily available again but I guess we can thank Comifornia for that one. JMHO Rich W. |

The only reason some units within some LE agencies adopt Kimber 1911's is because Kimber has the capacity to assist with maintenance and logistics. Not many (any) LE agencies have adequate armorer staff to maintain a fleet of 1911's that are run hard by units such as LAPD's SIS and D Platoon.
I really wish Kimber would do their pistols right. They have the potential to produce a VERY good production 1911 but they keep missing the mark for silly reasons. The rear sight on the SIS does look interesting.
