Agree. You can always load it with .38 or .38 +P if you need to.

    Versatility.

Although most .357 mag revolvers are heavier than their .38 counterparts.

As a house gun who cares. Carrying, it will matter.

That is true. A carry gun that gets left at home cause it isnt comfortable is worthless as a carry gun. Now if you are like me and like the weight of steel then youre alright.

Therefore, my S&W 442 with +ps, conceals much better. I don't feel outgunned, especially when I suprise the bg within 10 yards. Regarding the 22, I have a 22mag. It is not a round to take lightly.
The 357 magnum is superior to both rounds if you hit em. I'd lean toward the compact 9mm over the 2" 38spl +p but if conceal-ability is the issue and the snub nose conceals better then a bird in hand is worth two ... So carry and practice with the 38spl snubby. But if I could conceal a K frame 357 mag that's a great personal defense weapon any day of the week.

There's probably as much real-life data on .38 Special as there is on the 9mm (both 'standard' and '+p' / both hollowpoint and not) - both cartridges have been around a good, long while and both are *still* in use by law enforcement departments around the world.

Individual responses regarding just how effective a .38 Special is for self defense use will vary (ranging from 'nah, get a S&W .500' to 'barely adequate' to 'it'll easily get the job done' to 'geez, whad-e-ya need that big-ah *cannon* fer?'), but I am confident the overwhelming majority will agree that a .38 Special is not really much 'better' or 'worse' than a 9mm in a typical self defense situation.

I personally carry a .45 becuase I like the .45. All Im saying is caliber dont mean crap. .22 will do its job very well and leave an attacker cryin like a baby or possible kill him. Wake up people
YOUR RIGHT ! Anyone shot with a 38spl, 9mm Hollow point, or a couple 22's more than likely will stop. The enraged crack addict reminds me of the often posted, "What's the best handgun to carry if I run into a bear in the woods"

I would try each type of gun you are interested in at a range that will rent them . Pick what feels good to you, and you are comfortable with.
