I bought my Mosquito new, had it about 2 months, fired at this date at least 1200 rounds. I don't like the double action pull, that is it! I have had about 5 FTFeed No FTFires.
It is very close to my P239, in appearance and feel. I wanted a pistol that my eight year old would shoot with me...ta da the Mosquito! It is not the same workmanship as the P239, but it is not for protection! A great plinker, actually I cannot say much to that effect (it is my first plinker). I do enjoy the pistol, my son cannot pull the double action yet, but he has his work arounds (charges pistol's first round). I can say that it is very accurate, I do well with all my pistols S&W Airweight .38 Special, Sig .40 P239, S&W .357 Detective Special. The Mosquito is the tightest groups of any. After pulling the tallest front site, then figuring out that was the one needed...I am hitting bullseye at 20 yards very often. Also I just love the price of .22 rounds. The ammo I used first in the gun I believe was the problem (I don't remember what brand) I have shot over a thousand Fiocchi High Velocity 38grain with no problems. I have ordered from two different sites the recommended CCI Mini Mag (3000 rounds each). So you see my Mosquito is staying. I put my ammo in a Crown Royal sack, and sprayed a touch of Pro Long, this is before I ever read that people are trying this out to improve feeding, it made a mess! Fired with no problems, just the sticky... I tried to get the sticky off at range, then came home and blasted ammo with Powder Blast, and wiped them a little with gun oil on a rag so they weren't dry. I won't spray anything on them again as my particular gun doesn't have the problems I am reading about. I am keeping mine, but if I knew all of this before hand I would have looked further (especially the double action pull for my son). I am chomping at the bit to go shoot it today. I think I am Plink happy and not just Mosquito happy as it were. .07 cents a round aprox. Fourteen bucks... Two hundred paper holes (Can't beat it) Edited this post after range outing: Just got back from shooting it: One thing I noticed... the first two rounds did not fire, only because of the safety was left on. There were marks on the rim of the said two rounds. I don't like that too much, didn't fire, but sure made me pick up and toss them rounds well away from me. If you want a .22lr pistol that looks cool (like a 9mm sig) and don't carry about how reliable it is, by all means get the mosquito.
If you want a really nice .22lr pistol there are a ton of options. Hi-standard (they look like space guns and are amazingly awesome) Browning Buckmark (one of the nicest .22lr pistol triggers I have ever used) Ruger MK 2/3 (pain in the ass to clean, but a great gun nonetheless) There are a bunch of .22lr revolvers that are really nice as well. The single six comes to mind immediately when I think of .22lr revolvers. |

Update-----
Found some ammo at Wally World, worried about it but I am getting a Sig 522lr, figured if pistol wouldn't eat it, maybe the rifle will. It is Winchester SuperX 37 grains High Velocity 1330 FPS. I happened to call the dealer about the rifle comming in and knowing that he also had a Mosquito I inqured about the Winchester ammo I had bought. He said that 38 grain or better is what he seems to think works best. I shot a hundred rounds of the Winchester (perfect ammo). I shot 110 rounds of the already tried and true (for my Skeeter) Fiocchi 38 grain High Velocity (perfect ammo again). No misfires, no fail to eject, or fire, or load. Then the next day my son wanted to go shoot. The pistol hadn't been cleaned, I didn't have time, and thought what the heck... He had problem after problem, fail to eject twice, jammed twice. I took the pistol apart, having nothing to clean pistol with me, I just wiped it down with a rag. Lots of burnt powder in slide. It worked well after that. What I am thinking, everyone having these problems, maybe they aren't cleaning the Mosquito after every day of shooting. It aint a Glock! Note to self....next pistol - Glock! By the end of this trip to the range, I had the back site perfectly adjusted, I acheived a 4'' group at 20 yards, 10 shots. At 10 yards I was hitting a 2'' dot half of the time, using the double action. Terrible double action on this pistol. Last edited by Stuntman; June 26th, 2009 at 01:25 AM. |

the GSG-5 is picky on ammo too, but if you dont clean it really well, its going to give you problems just like the Mosquito. rule number one, clean teh damn thing.

If you want a Sig in .22 I can't recommend the Sig P226 Classic 22 more. It shoots great, feels great, looks great and you buy a centerfire conversion kit for it. Yes the P226 Classic 22 costs more than the Mosquito, but it functions flawlessly as opposed to the Mosquitos I've shot. Besides, the price of the Classic 22 and the conversion kit is actually a little less than a full P226 in 9mm, .40 S&W, or .357 Sig.
If you already have a Sig P226, P229, or P220, you can get the .22 conversion kit for about $300. Still way better than a Mosquito, IMNSHO. |

91xlt:
I bought one, and it wouldn't shoot worth crap. At least 1 or 2 rounds of every 10 round mag no matter what ammo (even the recommended CCI Mini Mags) would stovepipe. I traded it 2 months ago on a NIB Beretta NEO. A much better gun and inexpensive as well. Also it comes with adjustable sights and 2-10 round mags. Shoots virtually any ammo you can get hold of. Just adj. the sites for that load and you're good to go. Good luck and always stay safe.
