If the plan is just to see a nice return on your $1200 in 25 years, regardless of what the item being "put away" is, it might be better to invest in gold...or even just a certificate of deposit.
You might not want to lock in the rate for too many years though, keeping an eye on the rates in case they ever go up.

Do not buy gold. Here is a ten year chart of the price of gold:
![]() WHat you should see is that in ten years it has gone up steadily. Here is a 40 year gold price chart: ![]() Gold prices will dip again, possibly as drastically as they have increased. I am sure I do not need to post a chart showing housing prices for similar time periods. In short, there is no surefire investment. There are risks to all investments. Firearms are poor investments. However, if I were to try to find some fun curio to put in my safe for 25 years I would get a Smith and Wesson 327 JM like this one: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=175824000 I believe a thousand were made in 2005. It may or may not appreciate in value. However, this is pure speculation and subject to "market corrections." Good luck predicting the future.

I'm not sure I'd be comfortable buying a gun that I wasn't going to shoot but to play along with the post I'm thinking H&K P7M8.

Firearms are generally not good investments.
While you may not loose money, you may not gain that much either. 100 years ago, 1oz of gold bought you gun. Today, 1oz of gold still buys you a gun. If you want to make your money grow, talk to a CPA and invest it soundly. If you just want to hedge against inflation, then either buy a gun or gold.

Buy AK's when they drop down to below $300 again which will probably happen by the end of this year. Then when the next scare comes sell them for double or triple
![]() To be honest who the hell knows what the state of the planet will be like in 25 years. I wouldn't say don't waste money investing, don't let fear stop you. Just be prudent. FWIW that $1200 you spent on some guns hoping they would turn a profit in 25 years may have been better spent on a generator so you can keep your home or whatever running if SHTF.

Yea.
$1200 invested wisely can go a whole lot further in 25 years than any Handgun will appreciate. |

You can't just invest, you have to invest and work on a post-investment strategy. Buy a bunch of "assault weapons" and go out to campaign for Obama 2012, starting today.
