Interesting that you equate the giving of information with "beating up."

Um, that's right, which is why no one made such a comparison.

Nah -- a mere 9mm shooter here. Hardly a manly weapon. It works for me. The question is: what works for you? I suggest that you already have the wherewithal to figure that one out.

Ha ha,
Anything bigger than mine is big. Like a cannon to me. I was more scared the first time I shot Chazmans .9mm (first time I shot a .9mm) (its big for me) than I was shooting that .50.

Shame i got to this thread late.
Don is right. Next. It's like this guy who told me that back in the military he shot someone with his 45 and the guy was stopped cold and that my 9mm wouldn't do that. I asked him when he had the opportunity to travel back in time and shoot the same man under the same conditions with my 9mm. He then got pissy with me. When it comes to bad gun advice for women, snubnose revolvers, and moreso alloy framed ones are among the most common and worst. A) Snappy recoil B) Long heavy triggers For some reason it's common knowledge that women get snubnose 38's. It's probably due to men thinking they're too stupid to figure out a semi-automatic. As it was I forgot that Bob's in Mckean was closed on Mondays. The reason I was leaning towards a .38 +P capable revolver was because I have a larger Rossi snubbie in .357 which Mrs. CJ has shot before both with full power .357 and some .38 special loads designed for SASS. The Rossi isn't lightweight at all and it is already larger than she wants for a carry gun. I've owned a variety of pistols. I currently have a Glock 19, 1911 clone, Taurus PT-140 any of which I can carry concealed depending on what I'm wearing. While she has not shot these pistols I have always wanted to feel comfortable with their function, ie checking if loaded, how to load and how to shoot in an emergency. So it boils down to her feeling more comfortable even just holding a revolver. The grip fits her hand. There are some single stack pistols I know but the capacity is much closer to the revolver again. I figured the .38 +P would be the next step down from a .357 balistically for a revolver. I'll get her to try some compact and even sub compact 9mm probably before making a purchase. In the meantime she has found my 12ga coachgun fits her shoulder very nice and would make an excellent deterrent to a home invader. Those twin barrels look much scarier on the business end than a handgun IMO. |

[quote=WhiteWolf;114568]Wow, how did a thread about Mrs. CJ wanting a carry piece turn into lets beat up Michelle and what she thinks of guns?
Unfortunately I feel slightly responsible as I believe I was the first to adress Michele. I had no intention of putting her down in anyway, I just wanted to clarify that I thought the OP's wife should not look past .38 in a handgun sized more mangeably for the recoil, as I know .38 out of an Airwieght snub can hurt! I think I gave my $.02 politely and respectufully, as I have nothing but respect for any woman who is into firearms, let alone one who is willing to voice her opinions on them with the boys. I believe anyone else who has anything to say could remember we are here to help eachother and being a little more polite to a self proclaimed "noob" certainly wouldn't kill you. -Logan |

While I hate to put the 9mm in the "manly" category... It's too large for my wife to carry and she doesn't enjoy shooting it either. She is very happy with her Beretta .25 for a few reasons:
1. it's small 2. it doesn't kick at all 3. it's small 4. it's small ok, I am over doing the small part, but have you ever thought where you would put your carry piece while wearing an evening dress? I'll admit I never did. I actually like that she is carrying a .25 instead of a .22 since its a center fire, not rim fire, and the cartridge is actually designed for a semi-auto. Her Beretta jammed once on the second clip, since then never an issue. On a different note, she is actually happier with something that probably won't kill. While I could and would pull the trigger on my .357 and regret it later, women are different than men. If she knew that pulling the trigger meant that person would die she might not do it. I know, it doesn't make a lot of sense, but it does in their world. If I had chosen her gun for her it would have been a .38 snub or a 9mm. If I had she would never have gotten any good at shooting. |
