Thumbs down Banks with metal detectors

*Sigh*

My wife just called to inform me that the branch I usually goto (havent been to it in a while) now has metal detectors at the main entrance.

And this is a branch that is in a somewhat decent part of the city....

Scratch off another branch I wont be patronizing.

Consider this.

If it were a working metal detector, how many times a day do you think it would "buzz" as people walked in? Even if they weren't carrying "weapons", I could see that as a major headache for the bank. I've seen "western" belt buckles with more metal in them than my P32.

I think this was discussed here before... anyone know how that works?

I'm not sure about the type of detector in his bank, but some of the higher end ones can be calibrated to distinguish between density, thickness, and even the type of metal that sets it off.

To me it says that the bank puts a false sense of security above having customers, just as if they have "no guns" signs.

Last bank we used, after a couple of robberies, installed an "electrical corridor", my term, which trapped you between two magnetically locked doors. Inside the trap is a walk through metal detector. If you set it off, you are told, via an intercom, to empty your pockets onto a tray that is fixed to the wall just under a security camera. No hats, hoods or sunglasses as the sign says.

This branch is straight down the street and over the bridge from Trenton, NJ.
Once they get to know you, they will let you in even if you set off the alarm.

This type of bank security set-up is big in Europe, along with armed guards at most banks.

Same here. Sometime in the past few weeks, they just installed those mantrap entrances with the metal detector. I imagine they're doing it citywide, so it's probably worthwhile to find out what their policy is concerning lawful carry in their branches.

Everyone working my bank knows me, including the manager. Know me as in know I a a long time customer that regularly carries (OC) when I do my banking. Never a word said about it.

Knowing that, I'm betting that if they installed metal detectors at the entrance that I would be able to walk in, OC, as usual.

Sometimes businesses do things that don't make sense, like putting up "No Guns" signs, that do not increase safety or security. I think it is usually because they have not thought it through.

Glocks don't set off metal detectors.

That and the unarmed low paid security guards.

I dont mind the armed....well trained guards.

I dont think the rent-a-cops they have snoozing at the branches have that level of training though.

Either every person with keys (IOW everyone) is going to set the thing off or it's tweaked to a point where it's useless.

Even if it did go off what are they going to do? Frisk everyone?
Have some rent a cop making everyone empty their pockets?
Not going to happen unless they profile and pick and choose just who gets scrutinized. I could see that lasting 10 minutes before the ACLU jumped in.
