Technologically and culturally advanced societies can't exist without cities; they are a necessary evil. If Philly was part of NJ, much of the SE would be giving its tax dollars to NJ, and/or a new PA city would just crop up in its place, and likely be filled with the same leftist idiots that Philly has now.

That's out of a regional population of close to 5 million people that's not horrible statistics unless you're one of the 400. Camden has a much higher per capita murder rate. Do you really believe the poconos are completely safe? If that's the case you really would only need a hunting rifle. Bad things happen everywhere poconos and Philly and all of PA for that matter. As long as you have situational awareness and use a little common sense you'll be fine in Philly

As for you onlookers, I'm not sure what the big deal is. If you don't like it here, move. If you moved out, good for you. If you want to enjoy the city for the myriads of things it has to offer like I do, come and stay and grab some beers. Different strokes for different folks. Bitchin' about it ain't gonna change anything. All you're doing is annoy the people who live in Philly who are actually on YOUR side of the issues specific to guns and gun ownership. Al |

Sorry, your figures are outdated.
There have been 332 homicides in Philadelphia in 2008, down from 392 last year http://a.abcnews.com/US/wireStory?id=6551820 |

About a murder a day -- mostly gang / drug related -- a good start?
I don't think the rest of PA hates Philly. We provide food and shelter for a huge number of dangerous criminals that would otherwise roam elsewhere. I think the rest of PA is thankful that they thus have fewer criminals to deal with. But maybe you're right. I might have to move out of Philly to be safe. Norristown or Pottstown seem like good alternatives out in the hinterlands.

Do I think the Poconos are completely safe? No, but a hell of alot safer than Philly by far.. I lived in Philly 28 years, in Frankford, I had 3 friends that had "situational awareness" and plenty of "common sense", it still didnt stop them from becomming a murder statistic.. Philadelphia has remained one of the most violent cities in America for a very long time, theres a reason for that.. Police aren't even safe there.. And all of my rifles are hunting rifles

I don't get all of Philly bashing on this forum. Philly has a lot of great things to offer. You have to take the good with the bad. There are plenty of other big cities that are much worse than Philly.
