I'd we willing to bet those are huge underestimates as to the number of H1N1 cases. We've had over 100 cases of Swine Flu at my college in Northampton County and according to that map there are only 131 confirmed cases and 1 probable case in Northampton.

I in no way want to minimize peoples suffering, and if my family was affected perhaps I would be singing a different tune, but when a state the size of ours has 14 deaths, 8 of which occured in the 5th largest city in the country, I think a "national emergency" is an insult to an actual National Emergency. I guarantee more people in PA died last year becasue vending machines fell on them, etc. than of this "epidemic". At least the CDC says that the worst is over, hopefully we can avoid total decemation!

I've had swine flu and I am not offended in the least bit by your assessment. I couldn't agree more. I have a suppressed immune system and was supposedly a more "at risk" person, but the illness was so mild that I actually enjoyed it. I wasn't allowed to attend classes but I was well enough that I could get my work done and still party it up.

I missed that part. That makes sense though, our "outbreak" started around the week of the 18th.

Yeah, horribly outdated map - a little girl just died the other day, I forget if it was Lancaster or Gettysburg (I'm in the middle). Our cousin's little daughter had a case of swine flu that ended in a very serious case of pneumonia.

Also, unless a case is confirmed as swine flu through testing, it's tough to call it H1N1, as it's pretty much the same as plain old flu.

I agree that "national emergency" is a highly suspect designation. Anybody know what government powers are triggered by such a declaration?

A cab driver friend of mine said that he had it and felt like he got hit by a train. Not like him to be admitting loss to a bacteria, He did get better after a week in bed. Nothing deadly at all.
