Default My sons first election

Well my son turned 18 years old in August and registered to vote.
When I asked him last night if he was voting today, he stated no its just a local election.
As my son is also turning into a 2A supporter I sat him down and explained how local elections mean more than most people give them credit for, including gun rights. I went over preemption and how many municipalities are making their own local laws that are violating our rights everyday, but because they are a Boro or Township many people pay no attention until it is to late.

Well this morning he woke me up and asked if I could take him to school and if we could stop and vote on the way. I was never so happy to wake up in my life
I am very proud of him and I am also sure that this will begin a life long habit of participating in every election for him.

Good job on the education. If he starts now it will become a habit of many more elections to vote in.

Excellent job! Rep sent.

I had a similar discussion last night with my Cub Scout den. We've been learning about citizenship over the last month. With elections being the following day, I brought up voting and how it was one of the most important duties of a citizen. One boy asked why it was important. We had a great discussion about the purpose of voting and what can happen if you do not vote. Theres at least eight 8/9 year olds that have a solid start to being a good citizen and understanding the need to vote.

This happens to be my first election as well, but I just didn't have the time to register to vote. Please don't flame me guys, I've been really busy with some of my work. I promise that I'll be part of the house flipping in 2010 though. I'm really looking forward to that.

Well done. Hopefully there's a lot more 18 year olds like him out there.

We've been taking our girls (10 & 7) with us to the polls since they were born. They love it and cant wait until they can do it themselves.

Good work man, rep on the way. IMHO local elections are MORE important than federal ones; they put into office the people that affect daily life and one's immediate community.

When someone ask me that question.

WHY IS SO IMPORTANT TO VOTE?

I show them a picture of places like Gettysburg or Arlington cemetery with all the crosses and flags on the veterans graves that gave their lives so that WE can have that right to go vote.

Don’t WE at least owe them that much respect for the Ultimate price they paid for our rights, like going to go vote?

As to the reasons why more of the same, lame political change agents are always running for office from both "R" & "D" party that is a much different problem and one of the reason Firearm Owners Against Crime (FOAC) was created to deal with correcting that by electing PRO GUN / Pro Constitutional rule of law people to hold those offices.

Sad fact is there are still many "No Suitable Candidates" in many races, some thing we all could do our small part to help change if we choose to.

I also like to point to the pictures of the jubilent Iraqis holding up a purple thumb in triumph at exercising their right to vote and point out how ironic it is that people who are just now for the first times in their lives getting a taste, a glimpse, a whiff of freedom cherish that right while so many Americans piss the opportunity away. My son is 19 months old. He will be going into the booth with me today after work.

I always vote in the local elections. At least I feel like my vote means something unlike in the presidential election thanks to the electoral college bullshit.
