I love what Mr. Rohrer is saying in the video. If we had more _statesman_ like him, I believe our country could turn around from its march towards 'ism' (social, commune, fasc, etc).
Right now, the Federal government holds $$ over the states, and quite literally forces them to accept the unconstitutional 'laws'. Since the IRS automatically collects federal taxes, if a state chooses to 'opt out' of some mandate, they still lose the money. Ideally, if a state had the 'guts', it would collect the federal tax itself, and only release to the IRS that which it agreed to fund. Want to keep Washington on a short leash? Take their money. Implement term limits for Federal Government representatives _AT THE STATE LEVEL_ (I don't think there's a law that prevents that, but I could be wrong). Get RID of the lifetime benefits and pensions of the politicians. They should hold regular jobs, and be responsible for their own retirement and medical, just like the rest of us. The founding fathers never meant congressmen to be a career. They were supposed to come together periodically, and then go back home to work in their communities. Where did that end? Mr. Rohrer is correct. But unless Pennsylvania grows some REALLY big ones, we'll keep taking it from the Fed. |

I would vote for Rohrer over Corbett any day.

I received this email from Rep. Rohrer yesterday evening:
A Time For Choosing -- Again Dear Friends, Yesterday was the 45th anniversary of the famous Ronald Reagan speech, “A Time for Choosing,” often referred to as the “Rendezvous with Destiny” speech. Although this speech was delivered in 1964, it could have been delivered today. (Click here to watch) http://list.samrohrer.org//lt.php?id...RFBWRQxTXAk%3D Last night, on the anniversary of this speech, I participated in a Fox News web broadcast from the campus of Drexel University in Philadelphia. The host of the program, Judge Andrew Napolitano, posed questions to our panel on a range of issues from “The Economy” to “The Loss of Liberty”. As I answered the questions, I was thinking, “These questions about the role of government, the wasteful spending of tax dollars, the infringement of individual rights by the government, and the arrogance of many in positions of authority are the same issues this country has faced before. Why can’t we just learn from the past?” Then I came home and watched the 27 minute “A Time for Choosing” address. Unbelievable! The differences between 1964 and the problems facing our nation today and the challenges to our freedom vary only in degree. For instance: in 1964, the total tax burden on Americans was $.37 on every dollar. Now, it is around $.65. The government then spent $17 million more a day than it took in. Now, the budget deficit is in the trillions and the total debt is around $75 Trillion! In 1964, Fort Knox had about $15 billion in gold reserves, but foreign claims against that gold were almost twice that amount. Today, we don’t really know how much gold we have, and just the Chinese claims against us rival the entire GDP of 1964. In 1964, government policies were strangling our economy by subsidizing portions of it. Welfare rolls were increasing, and government policies were condemning millions to perpetual poverty. In 1964, Social Security promised $127/month to a young man upon retirement, but that same man investing identical contributions in a private retirement account could have retired with a guaranteed $250/month. Now, the entire Social Security system is bankrupt filled with IOU’s with no solution except to pay promises with hyper-inflated devalued dollars. In 1964, Reagan said, “…. under urban renewal, the assault on freedom carries on. Private property rights are so diluted that public interest is almost anything a few government planners decide it should be. ..” In 2009, private lands continue to be taken from people who have invested their lives in cultivating the land by federal and state governments in the name of “public interest”. In the name of public education, government officials are seemingly untouched as thousands of families are evicted from their own homes and property simply because they can‘t pay their backbreaking government school property taxes. In 1964, the United States faced the enemy of Communism. Our national leaders supposedly in the name of peace were willing to give up the peace by capitulating to our enemies. Today, our very President negotiates with the enemies of freedom and pledges in the name of peace to disarm our nation only to threaten the peace. Today, some of those same ideological enemies of freedom in 1964 sit in Washington, some as Czars, telling the private sector how much they can earn or what products they must produce. In these short years, the enemy has come ashore and taken up positions in the classrooms, the media, and government. While the face of the enemy is closer, the challenges are the same. What would Reagan say now? Yes, times have changed – but mostly in degrees. Taxes have climbed higher, the value of the dollar dropped lower. Government has grown bigger, the citizens poorer. But as Reagan said in his famous speech, “You and I have the courage to say to our enemies, “There is a price we will not pay. There is a point beyond which they must not advance….The destiny of man is not measured by material computations. When great forces are on the move in the world, we learn we’re spirits – not animals. There’s something going on in time and space, and beyond time and space, which, whether we like it or not, spells duty.” “You and I have a rendezvous with destiny.” As Reagan concluded, “We’ll preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we’ll sentence them to take the last step into a thousand years of darkness. We will keep in mind and remember…that you and I have the ability and the dignity and the right to make our own decisions and determine our own destiny.” Thank you, Ronald Reagan, for a reminder from the past. Principles, eternal values and the hope that lies within each person’s heart for freedom do not fade with time. For us in this age, the duty is now ours. We will pick up that fight. May God help us all to kneel down, stand up, and step out. For the Cause of Freedom, Sam Rohrer |

I wonder what he would do about the multitude of these criminal municipalities constantly violating the 6120 provision.
Corbett has completely ignored the problem, and has yet to respond to my repeated requests for comment on it. |

That said, Corbett has certainly moved things along with regards to reciprocity and deserves kudos for that. Mr. Rohrer, on the other hand, has many more views along my line of thinking. One vote for Sam. .

As I've stated, I like Corbett, but I have to admit that I feel his office is less than responsive to inquiries outside of RTK issues which obligates them to respond. A few weeks back there was an issue with the PSP Chief basically stating that he supports cities that pass "lost and stolen" ordinances. In an attempt to find out why the AG's office isn't doing anything about an arm of the Executive Branch making statements supporting the passage of illegal laws, I sent an email. I followed it up with a letter, and then phone calls to his office. The response? Nothing. Very disheartening, and it concerns me that a Corbett gubernatorial administration would be less than open to the public it serves.
