Default Philly is just messed up

Did anyone catch the Philly channel 10 news at 11:00PM last night? They did a short stroy on guns on Philly and they came up with an idea that I never heard of before. They are asking residents of the city to call the police to search their homes (they are volunteering for this so no warrent needed) if they believe someone in their home is in possesion of an illegal gun. So what is the penalty if they find an illegal gun you may ask. Well, according to the story there is NO penalty unless the gun is traced to a crime. This brings up many questions such as what happens when police find something illegal other than a gun. Since they are there looking for guns, do they have to ignore other illegal activity? The idiot politicians are trying to introduce more gun control legislation while they are ignoring the enforcement of existing laws. Do these people see how idiotic they really are? They actually believe that this is going to help things. The thing that scares me the most about philly is that representatives in the state would give in to them to shut them up and let them write there own laws that conflict with state laws. I live on the border of the city and can't imagine the mess that this would cause.

Nope. If you let them search for guns and they find drugs you're fucked.

Yea and the latest stunt that the State politicians from Fithy are using is holding up the state budget talks until they get some form of gun control.... I'm fed up with these anti american bastards.

Apparently the Constitution and the Bill of Rights means nothing to these people.

I think they should be tried for treason or at least thrown out of office for trying to violate our rights.

The Philly politicians (and Rendell) are desperate to do something.

Their foolish attempts to deprive honest citizens of rights (along with not wanting to alienate their constituency by throwing them in jail) are going nowhere fast....and I think we need to thank Al Gore for this (since he invented the Internet...hahahahahaha).

I would tend to agree. I'm no attorney, but I believe that: if they have a search warrant, they can only conduct a search within the scope of the warrant. If you simply give them carte blanche to search your home, anything else they find is fair game.

I would question the sanity of anyone who would give this kind of consent!

Even if they have a search warrant for a specific item and come across other contraband in that search, it is still permissible to use that contraband as evidence and charge you for its possession. The only time that isn't so is if they have, say, a warrant for a person and find a half ounce of weed in your filing cabinet. Clearly the person was not hiding in a 10"x12" box so they had no business looking there. Or, say, if they're looking for guns they have no business opening your pill bottles

How fucked up is that!!?? If I think there's someone in my home in possession of an illegal gun, I'll turn him upside down, shake him, and if anything falls out, I'll kick his ass?
Anyone who'd voluntarily invite the police to sweep their hoime is a retard.

Keep in mind that this is the same city that exchanged food for guns. I saw the coverage for this on the news and some of the 500 weapons they had pulled off the streets.

You have to realize that many in the city seem to believe that the city government owes them something, that the citizens are not responsible for their own personal safety and that it is the PPD that is supposed to protect them. 60 years of liberals telling the city that they are here to save them and the citizens are believing this and electing these guys back into office.

What's absolutely amazing to me is that these people cry for th city to save them, yet when a crime does occur nobody cooperates with the PPD to try to arrest and convict the criminals.

I got nothing...

I wonder how many people are going to call in the police to search their homes. My guess would be not many at all.
