How many of us are really angry about the direction the Republicans are going? How many have written to their reps about these issues? The reality is that if we don't like these people then we should oust them in primary season...

We came very close during the last senatorial election to boot specter... But on the other hand we need good candidates who are willing to stand up for what's right, not just some statist slobs...

Rick Santorum once said...

"The idea is that the state doesn't have rights to limit individuals' wants and passions. I disagree with that. I think we absolutely have rights because there are consequences to letting people live out whatever wants or passions they desire."
(anybody wants or has a passion for firearms?? Anybody????)

"Thirty-two years after the legalization of abortion by the Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade, the majority of Americans consider themselves pro-life. "
(ROFL!!!!!!!!)

"Isn't that the ultimate homeland security, standing up and defending marriage? " (Yeah, the Sanctity of marriage flew planes into the WTC...)

"What the Democrats are doing is the equivalent of Adolf Hitler in 1942 saying, 'I'm in Paris. How dare you invade me. How dare you bomb my city? It's mine.' This is no more the rule of the senate than it was the rule of the senate before not to filibuster."

"If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything."

Seriously though.. you guys want to vote this lunatic into office because he "says" he's going to protect your gun rights???

Please... give me a break..

~Samuel Adams

I can't, the truth of the matter is Bush ain't a conservative in the true sense and that's the problem with modern republicans. They're just the lesse of evils.

Amen to that, but at least the Republicans aren't actively trying for the most part.

Based solely on the issue of guns, the last time I checked Specter was our friend. I've read many examples of him in bringing down the hammer on the ATF for abuses in the past.

I can't say for sure this is correct, but I swear I remember reading about him being a hardass with the ATF.

If I have to choose between gun rights and gay rights, I'm going to have to apologize to gays in advance. Gun rights could in theory be used to secure gay rights, gay rights can't be used to secure gun rights.

This is what I mean when I say his ideas are less stupid ideas than democrat's stupid ideas.

Well, I'd have to say this thread has gotten off topic a bit. I'll gladly go on record now stating that if you consider yourself a conservative, you'll be hard pressed to find anyone in congress that is more conservative than Santorum. He has my full support.

sanatorium is socially conservative...he is politically very liberal (see the quotes about government limiting the rights of individuals posted above). he believes government should be used to force his morals on everyone else. that is a liberal idea, not a conservative one.

that's the whole problem these days. "conservative" has come to mean "socially conservative" which has come to mean supporting government-enforced moral fascism...which is the exact opposite of a true political conservative...who believes in the ideals of liberty and the right to the pursuit of happiness.

i will agree with dan, though. the most important right is the right to own guns...without that one, all other rights are unprotectable.

From what I understand Bob Casey is PRO Life (still ROFLing?) like his father and Anti Major Gun Control. However we should also consider who will be in charge of the various committees if the Dems win back control. Not a pretty sight to any who supports Gun Rights. We should also leave behind the cheap nonsensical "fascism" references. Words should matter.

I'm gay and I am hard pressed how I will vote on this one. The Dems talk pro gay and then, well then they talk more.

The Republicans are not pro-marriage, they are just saying that to play to Christian radicals.
