UPDATE 10-16-09
All the pressure, all the firearm owners asking your Reps questions about why can’t we get a day in the Judiciary committee with 111 co sponsors on a bill has finally forced this to the schedule. Here is the part of the email that went out the coalition yesterday and this would NOT have been possible with out ALL of your direct help and efforts. Quote:
The window of opportunity that I mentioned in the past has been pried opened with everyone’s help that took the time to contact the Reps. THANK YOU All of the research material and talking points that many PAFOA has helped craft with will now be brought to bear here and in the following battles in the open house debates, make no mistake this is going to be all of political war of words. We still need your help in crafting talking points to help overcome the Philadelphia District Attorney's Association, they are one of the so called "STAKE HOLDERS" special interest groups that there objection will have to be overcome. Some they have are valid concerns, the vast majority is just BS and this "may" make their jobs a little tougher, but since they don't have a problem letting repeat violent criminals go with getting a slap on the wrist, they don't really have the moral high ground to object. PAFOA members help requested for passage of HB 40 & SB 842: http://forum.pafoa.org/pennsylvania-...-sb-842-a.html (PAFOA members help requested for passage of HB 40 & SB 842:) Additionally this Fall event may/will be shifted to this day or possibly a two event the day before and this on this date, got to talk with Kim Stolfer this weekend to verify. If you want to be apart of this joint effort details here on this link 2009 Fall legislative Harrisburg lobbying event –open to all PAFOA http://forum.pafoa.org/pennsylvania-...all-pafoa.html (2009 Fall legislative Harrisburg lobbying event –open to all PAFOA) Still don’t be surprised if this hearing gets pulled, changes dates, cancelled or there is some hanky-panky that goes on behind the scenes which is very common. On this bill expect it! Just remain vigilant, stay the course, that long of a meeting is going to be interesting. Additionally, IF someone has ever been in a self defense case and had the District Attorney give you the round around or had to defend yourself Please PM. More to follow as the information becomes available, as usual everyone on PAFOA will be the first to know. To everyone on PAFOA that have done their extra part to get ALL US a hearing by contacting the Reps, Kim Stolfer and Others wish to extend our many thanks, your efforts have brought this to a hearing. If you have NOT done your part, still there is time to contact all the Reps on page one of this thread and ask them to add their names as co sponsors. The battle is joined! |

Whitefeather,
Please keep me in the loop. Come hell or high water, I intend to be there. (Well, maybe I'll stay home for swine flu.) Anyone from NE PA looking to go down, I'll have space if you want to car pool. I'll probably leave at 0-dark-thirty, though. I HATE being late. Plus it's good to have folks to BS with on the way down.

I work in Harrisburg. I plan to attend the hearing should my schedule permit it. I look forward to meeting some other members there.

I emailed NRA-ILA twice and called once with the understanding they would get back in touch with me.
It is extremely important for the NRA to get in the front on this and be at this meeting. Can anyone help with getting that to happen? |

I had to opportunity to spear with Rep Dan Deasy on Thursday night at an unrelated event. I asked him what his position on this bill was as I had previously sent him an email with no response. He stated he was familiar with the bill and that it was a common sense bill and indcated he would support it if and when it got to the floor. He asked that I follow up with an email next week and he would check on the status of everything.

The hearing on HB 40 is still scheduled for Thursday, November 19, 2009 10:00 AM JUDICIARY COMMITTEE Public hearing on HB 40 Room G50 Irvis Office We are planing on having a interactive activist lobbying event on Nov 18 to directly support HB 40 and other pending legislation. If you want to be apart of this joint effort details here on this link 2009 Fall legislative Harrisburg lobbying event –open to all PAFOA http://forum.pafoa.org/pennsylvania-...all-pafoa.html This would also not have been possible without everyone help to get HB 40 this far, so please email your Reps and people on Judicary Committee to ask them to pass this for a FULL house vote. |

As I was sitting here doing some after dinner browsing of the board, my phone rang. It was my representative, Gary Day, holding a telephone conference town hall meeting. I entered the que to ask about his participation on this issue and he responded. His response to me was that when I had initially contacted him last spring, he thought he was already on board with this, but discovered he wasn't. He immediately signed on as a co sponsor and intends to support this bill as fully as possible.
He also mentioned that there was another (unnamed) representative who planned to hold a session to garner support against the bill. So we need people to show that this is important to us. But I am encouraged that he was up to date on this and plans to continue his support. Cross posted in my own thread on this issue.

I messed up copying & pasting the info from post #271 to #277
If you want to be apart of this joint effort read details here on this link - post #48 2009 Fall legislative Harrisburg lobbying event –open to all PAFOA http://forum.pafoa.org/pennsylvania-...oa-page-5.html (2009 Fall legislative Harrisburg lobbying event –open to all PAFOA) I also want to once again thank everyone for all there efforts to help get this up for a vote. Without your direct involvement in the political process at our Harrisburg second amendment second to none rallies along with the interactive legislative lobbying events, and so many of you contacting you Reps we wouldn't be here now with 111 co sponsors on HB 40. There are also powerful forces so called "stakeholders" & special interest groups that are moving their high value chess pieces on the board to attempt to block this effort by all of you as they have been able to in the past sessions. So IF you can come to Harrisburg on Nov 18 or 19 it will be a great help, IF you not cannot come to express your feelings and your support. Could you contact all 26 members of the house Judiciary Committee and ask them to pass HB 40? Without amendment or change, email, call or fax ALL of them If you need help drafting up a letter please read the ACSL letter on page one of this thread. It can be a simple as just asking them to vote FOR HB 40. Rep Thomas R. Caltagirone – Judiciary Committee Chairman tcaltagi@pahouse.net (717) 787-3525 fax (717) 772-5401 Rep Ronald S. If they do the info will be here. http://www.pcntv.com/index.html One more point, there is and has been more advance detail info on PAFOA then available anywhere else on the net about HB 40 so you should all be proud of what we can accomplish if we work toward a common cause effort like this. |
