Default Transporting a firearm in vehicle without a LTCF?

Sorry if this has been asked before (i'm sure it has, but i cant find it). I'll get straight to the point. I dont have my LTCF yet, i'm currently applying for one. Whats the deal with transporting a hangun in your car to, say the range or a private property where target practice will be done? A friend told me that since i dont have a LTCF that i can transport my firearm from my home to the range or private property where target practice will be done, however, i need to have the ammunition seperate from the hangun (for example, the gun on the front seat and the ammo in the trunk or back of the car. Is this correct? Also any links to the actual PA laws regarding this would be helpful as well.

Maybe i'm blind, but i just cant find the law regarding this.

From our reference library link (upper right)...

See section b-8 and definitions e

There are other laws showing as well but this is directed for your question at hand.

Default Re: Transporting a firearm in vehicle without a LTCF?

So, if i read that correctly, i am legally allowed to transport a firearm in my vehicle without a LTCF, but only if i'm going to or from a range or private place of target practice and the handgun is unloaded? Is this correct? So theres nothing that requires me to keep the ammunition on the other end of the vehicle?

I'm just trying to make sure im understanding this 100%.

I'm no lawyer so quote on this, but I'm pretty sure you can have a firearm in your car, unloaded of course, only to or from a gun place, or you home.

Or from you home, to meet somewhere, then to go to a gun range, and vice versa.

The ammo has to be seperate, not necessarily in seperate containers, i.e. the gun can lay on the floor and the ammo on the front seat.

The ammo and gun cannot be in the same container, loaded or not. So keep your gun case without ammo in it.

I think I summed it up pretty well.

You can't have ANY diversion in your trip. It is even questionable if you can stop for gas while going to the range. While gas *may* be ok, stopping to see a friend or such is definitely not.
