Re: House Judiciary vote on Pro-Gun bills Tues 3/18!
I think her reply was reasonable and promising; it wasn't a form response, it directly addressed the content of the email.
The usual robo-responses suck; "Thank you for expressing your opinion about the GUN BILL YOU MENTIONED. Rest assured, I am studying this issue very carefully and will vote after proper consideration."
These gun bills are misunderstood even by lots of people who are knee-deep in gun rights, there's been opposition to a bill that is desperately needed by thousands of Pennsylvanians who lost their gun rights and really want to see this bill enacted, but even some of the pro-gun activists initially opposed it, based on their misunderstanding. Why would we expect that legislators who focus on other things, like jobs or taxes or fracking or highway funding or schools or health care or home financing or pedophiles or Internet fraud or the National Guard or govt waste or Welfare or water purity ....... or any of a thousand other things....why would we expect them to immediately know what a particular bill or amendment does?
What are your thoughts on SB 1315, for example?
Honestly, I can relate to this. To all of my clients, their case is understandably the focus of their attention, at least while they dial the phone to call me. But when they call and say "Hey, it's Bob, what's happening?", I'm usually in the dark as to who they are. "You know, I'm Bob, about the guns?" Yes, Bob, a lot of my cases are about the guns. Help me to help you, say "It's Bob Smith, you're doing a pardon for me." THAT helps, it saves us both time, and allows me to figure out which Bob you are.
(The most inexplicable are the clients who call and say "hey, it's me." If we didn't have dinner together last night, I have no idea who "me" is, especially when the caller ID is only telling me "cell phone - PA".)
This is an opportunity for you to educate and nudge your representatives. Ask them, "what's your opinion on HB 1243, which would fix the problem created by judicial activism of the Superior Court when it misinterpreted a statute that you folks enacted, so that the Restoration of Rights law is now incapable of ever restoring gun rights to the very people it was intended to help?" That sets the tone, and is a data point for your representative to factor in.Attorney Phil Kline, AKA gunlawyer001@gmail.com

Re: House Judiciary vote on Pro-Gun bills Tues 3/18!
I sent emails to all of the addresses. So far I only got a few replies. Here they are.
Bill Kortz -
"I took an oath to obey, support, and defend the constitution of the United States and that of the Commonwealth of Pa. I take this oath very seriously. I will not infringe on our rights".
Sincerely,
Bill Kortz
S.R. 38th District
Matthew Baker -
"I agree".
Greg Lucas -
"Got it"
If I receive anymore replies I will be sure to pass them on. Keep up the fight. It only takes 10 minutes of your time to send out an email out to all.

I agree. Bill Kortz seems like a stand up guy. Lets hope others feel the same way. It's ridiculous that we have to be so proactive to protect our rights. They represent such a small % of the populous yet they have the power to infringe on our rights. Its a shame!

I agree. I sent her an email earlier thanking her for the update on the vote and for taking the time to reply to my emails. I then wished her a good day for added measure.
Whether a rep agrees with my request on a vote or not I do appreciate it if they actually takes the time to give a real reply.Socialism is for the people, not the socialists - Andrew Wilkow

It seems like these bills are encountering a lot of political pushback. We shouldn't let that stop us though; KEEP PUTTING PRESSURE on the legislators. The more they hear from us, the more difficult it will be for them to prevent this legislation from getting fair consideration. And given that the bills could be getting held up due to weak-kneed House leadership (which are Republican):
I'd suggest that as many people as possible CALL the offices of Rep. Sam Smith and Rep. Mike Turzai. Tell them to stop playing politics with our rights, and to allow HB2011 and HB1243 to be considered for a vote! Their contact information is below:

Re: House Judiciary vote on Pro-Gun bills Tues 3/18!
WhiteFeather-
Thanks so much for your continued updates on the situation in the House.
Could you shed any light on the process through which bills are actually brought to the floor for a vote? Is this a decision made strictly by the Republican leadership, or is some kind of vote taken? Is there the possibility that HB 2011 is simply never put to the floor again for a vote?
I'm also interested in the amendments. I tried to find the text online but it seems like the state legislature website only posts amendments that are actually voted on. Are the text of these amendments available elsewhere?
